With Rumors of Fallout 4 taking place in Boston...

Post » Sun Aug 19, 2012 12:54 pm

... I will explain why this is plausible, what outcomes we could possibly see and other such "possibilities"

Okay, so if you're living under a rock someone on reddit who 'might' work at MIT posted this.

http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/yexpi/fallout_4_will_take_place_in_boston/

"The rumors are true, Fallout 4 will take place in Boston. In case you haven't heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT. I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that's really all I can say for fear of losing my job.
I am telling you it will take place in Boston. Whether you believe me or not, how do you feel about a Fallout Boston?"

So that's pretty vague, but how do we know this could even be a possibility? One big fat reason. Zimmer from FO3.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Zimmer

MIT is the Institute that Zimmer was talking about in the Commonwealth. There's also mention of Boston at other parts of the game, but The Commonwealth was thought to be an expansion DLC around the time FO3 released. Now this could be coincidental, but there's been a lot of rumors and with Bethesda at MIT that should take notice.

What does this mean? Well according to Zimmer and following the lore The Institute is even more advance than the old world was. Zimmer openly despises and thinks Rivet cities lab is a "chemistry set" and not "real science". Another possibility is that MIT is actually a micro city hub in the Boston area. The Replicated Man (the quest tag associated with Zimmer) is heavily inspired by Blade Runner. It's not beyond the realm that MIT could be like New Vegas. Even sharing a lot of design motifs with Blade Runner like city. Zimmer also points out that the rest of the Common Wealth is much like the wasteland. If you look at parts of old industry in Boston, it's mostly ruin right now.

Boston also has a lot of Iconic locations like...

Fenway park
The Prudential Center
The Mall
The Boston Commons
The South End
Little Italy
The Market Place
Financial District

Speaking of Fenway Park, how neat would it be if Red Sox fans were baseball themed Raiders who socked their socks in blood. Just an idea.

Oh and if you're wondering about music, well doing some research the only song I can find that relates to Boston that is around the era of most Fallout music is this.

Take it or leave it. It looks like we'll be going to Boston in a few years.

Just commented about this in the speculation topic. While Boston does have a lot of neat locations itself, I'd rather have it where Bethesda brings back the world map so they can spread out the locations; each settlement would be roughly the size of a DLC location (hopefully that isn't unrealistic). The main place in Boston is the Institute.

That red sox thing would be funny. If the world map spreads to NYC, maybe there could be two raider groups who took over Fenway and Yankee Stadium and have a rivalry.

This means Bethesda will likely include some Android army and proceed to make the game horrible.

But the big.flaw with this guys rumor is that he just casually knows Bethesda is in Boston.

I saw the original topic on reddit and frankly, ignored it. The guy posts no proof and his claim hasn't been verified as being true. Anyone in the world could do what he just did and make the same claim.

Like for instance, that goofy trailer that everyone took as proof that Fallout 4 is in San Francisco.

This means Bethesda will likely include some Android army and proceed to make the game horrible.

I [censored] hate Androids. If this does indeed turn out to be true, the premise of the Androids (ala Harkness), had better be changed or altered or not included at all.

If we believed every random rumour posted by random anonymous people on the Internet, we'd have to blieve that F4 is in SanFran, Seattle, New York AND Boston.

I guess you play "The Vertibird Stewardess".

What difference does the city make?

Did anyone honestly like or dislike Fallout 3 based on the fact it took place in D.C.? Call me crazy but I doubt there will all be that much difference between wrecked post-apocalyptic D.C. and wrecked post-apocalyptic Boston.

Yes, the android army idea sounds like crap, hope it isn't the case.

Dead Money added lessor replicators, so android make perfect sense if MIT been working on them years. I mean the Enclave came up with new power armor and energy weapons, so why can't MIT spend there time working on android.

Guys its a rumor from Reddit of all places. That's only slightly higher than scribbles in the bathroom stall on the scale of believability. That said, I'd love to see some rowdy post-apocalyptic hockey fans. :3
