What is wrong with the youth of today?

All kids are exposed to violence, six, drugs, etc. Trust your kid that she'll make the best decision.

I don't think our generation is any better or worst then the last. Its just how they were thought. I never have gotten in any trouble at school ever, except for twice and that was for talking and accidentally spamming on these forums lol. :( Besides advlts are pretty bad too. I see them swearing, using violence as well.

Raithen,

Never once did I mention anything about "killing" either the 3 kids or their parents. Just beating them.

My argument isn't moot. Yes, I screwed up. No, I wasn't always good. But I knew when I was caught and knew when I was wrong. There is a difference A LOT of the children today don't own up to ANYTHING they do.

And no, my comment about the jails is not off topic. How many states carry the death penalty for serious crimes? Not many.....why? Because there are special interest groups who feel, "Ohhh wahhhh...its inhumane..." but they fail to realize the guy who chopped up an entire family in a bathroom now gets a free ride on everyone else's dime. But I guess that's ok to you? Maybe for you...but not for me.

A kid gets caught stealing at a young age shouldn't be given a gold star and told not to do it again. That child should be smacked and have some sort of corporal punishment bestowed on him so he knows...."Hey, what I did really isn't right and could get me in a lot of trouble."

You know what....forget it...this is the internet. I'm done with this thread. All I wanted was to have a conversation about some stupid thing some kids did because they were acting like idiots and it gets turned into..."Oh well you generalized this and generalized that and you aren't making sense oh you said they were idiots...well that must mean you're one too...." guess that means you and everyone else who has bashed me see nothing wrong with some kids walking the yellow line on a road where bodies have turned up because of stupid people? Guess that's ok and the guy trying to prevent yet another statistic and got mad at the ones who are at some point going to die because they won't listen is in the wrong. You're right....next time...I just won't do anything. What was that? Bystander Effect? I'll just be the guy who watches it all unfold and attempt to do nothing. Geezz...now I know why I don't help people....now I also know why I hate everyone. Thanks for re-affirming that for me.

No, doesn't make sense?

Three kids walking down the middle of the street on a very dangerous road and when called out on there stupid decision to do so I'm flamed because of it? RIGHT.....guess that doesn't make sense.

Generalizing my hatred of children? I don't hate kids. I just hate kids who can't own up to something they've done. But I do have a generalized hatred of everyone. I'm not picky on who I don't like. I can point out at least 100 kids in this lake development I live in who do not have any discipline in their lives. I can also point out their parents who are completely oblivious to things their children do. In fact I can name the perfect example of kids who don't have any discipline. I had just gotten my brand new work truck an '08 Chevy Uplander with 1000 miles on the clock first night it was home some; now I have to be PC here...."childrem" decided it would be a good idea to key the car, put mustard, ketchup and eggs all over it oh yeah....not to mention they expletives written all over the side of it too. Not only did they hit my work truck but they hit my personal truck too. Couple hundred dollars worth of damage. When tehy were confronted about it they denied it. When their parents were approached for the money to repair the keyed truck they denied it. Guess I did it myself huh? I mean since you generalized I hate kids and all I want to get them in trouble....... As for smacking my daughter? No. I won't. But be rest assured when she does something wrong there will be consequences. I've forgotten we live in an age where parents don't believe in capital punishment or discipline. Everyone is special....everyone gets a trophy...everyone is on the same level......give me a break....everyone isn't special...2nd place is the first loser and no one is on the same level.

Either way...this isn't what I was looking for in this topic and so now I'm killing the topic.

That pretty much sums up the OP's reaction to some kids walking on the street.
Do I sense a slight hint of pre-meditated negative disposition towards kids in general that made him lash out like that?

Well you can't exactly confront the parents about it, because they threaten to stab you and then you end up with a brick through your window.

So, on the pendulum of society are we in "Childish Monarch" phase or "Uncriticized Free Spirit" phase?

FYMFI: Kids have always svcked. They don't svck more now that you're an advlt, just like cartoons don't svck more now that you're an advlt. It's because you're no longer a kid, and are now an advlt. Whether you're choosing to ignore clear instances from your childhood where you acted like a dike, or whether you just never did stupid things like that because you were one of the few un-svcky ones, it does not mean that kids didn't svck when you were a kid. My dad tells me about the crap he did as a kid: tying frogs to his bicycle wheel and riding down the road; shoving fire crackers in frog's mouths and lighting them; seeing how long it takes for a frog to drown.

I'm sorry, but cartoons do svck a lot more nowadays. Compare Courage the Cowardly Dog to any of the drivel you find on Cartoon Network currently and you'll see the difference.

Courage the Cowardly Dog was a great show, but it's not better than Boondocks, American Dad, Family Guy, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, or Check it Out!
Those last two require a uh, open, sense of humor to actually enjoy, but they're still hilarious.

No, trust me, my grandfather had the same access to television in 1992 that he had in 1952, and no pair of ten year olds had ever been reported as brutally murdering a toddler until Jamie Bulger in 1992.

That's one exceptional example though. Unless that's happening all the time then it doesn't really count. Just like how serial killers are not a representation of the decline of their society, just occasional horribly messed up people.

EXACTLY!

Catdog, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Rocko's Modern Life, all better than cartoons today. I'd actually watch those shows, but crap like Chowder is like gouging my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

I wasn't targeting the more advlt-oriented shows, I was talking about Total Drama Island and the rest of the junk aimed towards children.

Raithen,

Never once did I mention anything about "killing" either the 3 kids or their parents. Just beating them.

Okay fine. I'll give you this one. You only said you wanted to beat them to within an inch of their life, then remove their parents' reproductive organs. (According to the rules of this board, advocating or suggesting doing illegal actions is a banable or warnable offense. Might want to check yourself.)

I like how you didn't deny the torture accusation though.

My argument isn't moot.

Lol. Believe me, it's VERY moot. I'm going to assume you read my post to find out why and are now just denying it to save face. I can't blame you.

Yes, I screwed up. No, I wasn't always good. But I knew when I was caught and knew when I was wrong. There is a difference A LOT of the children today don't own up to ANYTHING they do.

there you go again: generalization. Since you were a good kid, you assume that ALL kids of today never own up to anything they do. What proof do you have? Do you personally know every single youth on this planet?

You know what....forget it...this is the internet. I'm done with this thread.

Because I destroyed your argument, and instead of sticking around to prove your point, you now recognize that you hold a very misguided viewpoint on the youth of today?

Guys, I think I just won the internet.

All I wanted was to have a conversation about some stupid thing some kids did because they were acting like idiots and it gets turned into..."Oh well you generalized this and generalized that and you aren't making sense oh you said they were idiots...well that must mean you're one too...."

No, all you wanted to do was not have a conversation about some stupiid things some kids did, and this was evident from the onset - The thread title (which included your first generalization).

I never once called you an idiot. I have no personal feelings against you so I haven't and will not resort to name-calling. I'm just here to explain to you why your opinion is misguided. That's all.

guess that means you and everyone else who has bashed me see nothing wrong with some kids walking the yellow line on a road where bodies have turned up because of stupid people?

I haven't bashed you, and no one else in this thread has bashed you. When you include sweeping generalizations like "All youth today are stupid and disrespectful", you can expect some backlash.

Also, this is a falacy. You assume because I disagree with you, and also because you can no longer rationally defend your position, that I must be 'bashing' you. It's a silly tactic that's used by a lot of debaters who are backed into a corner, and I'd have a lot more respect for you if you didn't use it.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else in the thread, by I never argued with you about yelling at the 3 girls. I never defended their actions.

Three kids walking down the middle of the street on a very dangerous road and when called out on there stupid decision to do so I'm flamed because of it? RIGHT.....guess that doesn't make sense.

Again, people don't agree with you, so you assume they're flaming you. Please, for the sake of debate, don't do that.

Generalizing my hatred of children? I don't hate kids. I just hate kids who can't own up to something they've done. But I do have a generalized hatred of everyone. I'm not picky on who I don't like.
