The Main Race

Whilst playing Skyrim, I constantly felt pressured into being a Nord. I felt like the game encouraged you to be a Nord Dragonborn Warrior and nothing else. In Oblivion, yes Imperials are the native race, but I have not at all thought, "You know what, I should be an Imperial, it's just right". I'm not sure how else to explain it. :P

There isn't really a main race in the games, you just pick the race that you like or fits the build you want. But I suppose the game sort of suggests that you should be race X.

Cyrodiil is kind of like America. It's a melting pot of so many cultures. This makes it feel more welcoming for those who play races that are almost never main at all, like Khajiit. That's how I felt about it, anyways.

Or the UK, or France, or any number of other countries. ;) but yes I get what you mean.
Oblivion is a lot more of a melange and a lot less restrictive in the sense that it is easier to reconcile multiple races being available.

I don't think it explicitly pressured you to, I think it was in part simply that the game itself was so thematically restrictive that it made it to more obvious to play the indiginous race simply by dint of the fact that it fitted better.
I did not, but I can see why some folk feel this way.
I don't think it helped itself inasmuch as if you thought too hard about some things it would simply not make sense, if you played another race - for instance: Khajiit are not allowed in settlements and yet...? How does that work, then...?

But equally, that weakness is a blessing in some senses for RP, because Skyrim is I think *supposed* to be a lot less cosmopolitan than Cyrodiil and so if/when you play another race you can kind of "stick to the man" if you will, which is a good place to start...

I still prefer Obv, though :D

I'm an American, so... IN AMERICA!

That aside, in America, I wish I had the PC version of Oblivion. I have gotten to liking it again and am hating the framerate of the PS3 version. It's naughty in how irritating it is when you get used to PC games. I will like the game even more when I can play it on the PC. I'm just too lazy and too busy to actually go to a store and ask, "Do you have Oblivion GOTY for PC?" Wal-Mart likely doesn't. It is the last remaining retailer that bothers to have serious PC games out at all in my area, though.
