Is it still "the best game ever"? 6 years later...I understand it's only $4 but that's 4$ I could put towards something else.

No, buy yourself a few cans of soda or something with that $4, I threw Half Life 2 away after 2 days. I honestly thought it was garbage, and that's where it ended up. I've never seen whats so great about it.
