Alright, so here is the deal:
I purchased the Crysis collection on Steam during the summer sale.
I already owned a DVD copy of the original Crysis (Collectors Edition), but I like the convenience of steam, and I wanted Crysis Wars so that I could play some Mechwarrior Living Legends and of course Crysis 2 was a bonus.
I installed Crysis Wars, and steam automatically installed it with the latest patch. I successfully log in using the Gamespy Comrade log in, But if I attempt to join or host a game with punkbuster enabled, it says that the CD Key is invalid.
If I click edit CD Key, the CD Key is displayed and appears to be correct.
I originally thought it might be this issue:
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/2011-01/steam-cd-key-issues/
But when I follow the directions for that, it still fails to validate the CD Key, and if I click on edit CD Key, it now displays... nothing.
I have tried contacting support, and they had me try a different CD Key, with the same result.
I have confirmed that in the registry the CD Key appears to match. (although it is presented in the AAAABBBBCCCCDDDDEEEE format rather than AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEE)
The registry key is at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Crysis Wars\ergc\(Default)
note that the key is also present at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Crysis Warhead(R)\ergc\(Default)
HKEY_USERS\S-[a long string of numbers]\Software\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Crysis Wars\ergc\(Default)
HKEY_USERS\S-[same long string of numbers]\Software\Valve\TestApp17330\SteamKey
Updating the CD Key in Crysis wars results in it being updated at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Crysis Wars\ergc\(Default)
and
HKEY_USERS\S-[a long string of numbers]\Software\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Crysis Wars\ergc\(Default)
and it is updated in the AAAABBBBCCCCDDDDEEEE format.
Manually adding the dashes appears to results in the CD Key not being read.
Although my system is 64 bit, it appears to be installed and running as a 32 bit application.
Before any one suggests it, I have negative interest in using Origin.
I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.
Be Seeing You,
Hand Of Cthulhu
