Theory for Talos ban

Post » Mon Aug 27, 2012 10:51 pm

Is it possible that the whole reason why the Thalmor hate Talos is because he's a Shezarrine of Lorkhan, the Trickster-God who cut the relations between Altmer and the spiritual plane?

" When asked about Lorkhan and his avatars, developer Michael Kirkbride presented the following list. All items of the list are names, surnames, pseudonyms, or titles of people (notably http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Tiber_Septim) suspected to be a part of the enantiomorphic "Oversoul" that is believed by some to constitute the deity known as http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Talos.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Shezarrine#cite_note-WWYDB-10http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Shezarrine#cite_note-11 "
  • 1. Wulfharth L
  • 2. Hjalti O
  • 3. Ysmir R
  • 4. Talos K
  • 5. Arctus H
  • 6. Septim A
  • N

I'm not quite sure who is/will be the " N ", the seventh avatar of Lorkhan. Let me know what you think about this theory.

To kill Man is to reach Heaven, from where we came before the Doom Drum's iniquity. When we accomplish this, we can escape the mockery and long shame of the Material Prison.

To achieve this goal, we must:

1) Erase the Upstart Talos from the mythic. His presence fortifies the Wheel of the Convention, and binds our souls to this plane.

2) Remove Man not just from the world, but from the Pattern of Possibility, so that the very idea of them can be forgotten and thereby never again repeated.

3) With Talos and the Sons of Talos removed, the Dragon will become ours to unbind. The world of mortals will be over. The Dragon will uncoil his hold on the stagnancy of linear time and move as Free Serpent again, moving through the Aether without measure or burden, spilling time along the innumerable roads we once travelled. And with that we will regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit.

Talos did not cut the relation between the Altmer and Aetherius. The Altmer had Dracochrysalis, and the Path of Auriel was always welcome for them to follow.

The Thalmor only found this path too difficult to follow, and they hated this difficulty. So they decided to destroy the whole system from the root. The first step was to uninstall the OS that sustained the System, aka TalOS.

Hmm... so according to your quotes the Thalmor plan to unbind Akatosh? " The Dragon " and the whole time spilling talk sounds a lot like Akatosh.

As born from the whole enantimorph, Talos had bound Akatosh, at least some essential part of the dragon, to him to fortify Mundus. Mundus could never be made if the Dragon had refused the Serpent.

Removing Man is erasing/reshaping Lorkhan, while freeing the dragon is reshaping Akatosh (or Auriel but I'm not very sure about that). Back to the time when the idea of Creation never occured, by that the Thalmor would "unmake" Mundus and return to true Spirit forms, or so they had believed.

Wow, thanks, I had no idea of any of that. It's good to know that the Thalmor aren't just snobbish elves, but rather wannabe/have-been godlike beings.

I think they hate him for the reasons they state, because he once was a man and now is a god. They don't believe that's possible because they think themselves higher than men, so how could something worse than them be better than them?

Maybe only the high rank members of the Thalmor. Regular members are still ignorant snobbish elves. But the aim of the Thalmor are directly from the high rank members, so even the low ranks never know what they are actually doing, as long as the Thalmor could satisfy them, they are still walking toward where the high ranks command them to go.

I think the low rank members truly believed so. And most Altmer from SSI never gave the Divine Talos a damn, even before the Thalmor took control of SSI. Yet the mages and scholars should know better than that, at least the high ranks of the Thalmor did so.

Its a ruse.
Someone truly convinced of their own superiority does not fear what they would see as false gods.
True superiority is not threatened by the misgivings of the lessers.
Hating Talos for the reason you state would imply that deep down they are not convinced of their superiority, and are trying to prove it to themselves. That is something a human would do, not a trueborn Altmer.

Talos is a spoke in the Wheel of Creation, and as such in the way of the Thalmor, who seek to unmake the Mundus so they may 'regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit.'

Yes, that's why I think generally before the Thalmor took control of the SSI the Altmer of the SSI never cared about whether Talos became a god or not. He was not, is not and never will be their god, so why should they care. But the Thalmor had hidden their true purpose under the superiority mask, propagated Talos as offence to the elves, and sadly many believed so, including those zealousThalmor Justiciars.

If this were the case I doubt they would use the excuse they use as an excuse. I think they're just mislead. Their racial narcissism is enough reason. They want to unmake the mundus and they want to be with men as little as possible. They don't want Talos to be there at any point, and if gods don't receive worship then they lose their power, or so it would seem.

There are at least two levels in the stratery of the Thalmor regarding Talos. One for those who scheme and plan, and the other for those who follow orders. The former ones know the role Talos plays in the Wheel of World and demand him removed for their plan to revert the Creation, while the latter ones only know what the former ones allow them to know.

The high ranked tell their submissive Talos is bad and fake, that mere a man cannot ascend like Auriel and the glorious ancestors of the Altmer, so his being worshipped offends the superiority of the Altmer. Then these submissive tell the same line to the Mede Empire.

We can also add a third layer between them: that Talos is a confrontation to the glory Altmeri Empire and a sting from the Doom Drum who is the enemy to them, so removing Talos leads to the total victory and domination of the Altmer to the whole Tamriel. The ones on this third layer may lie to their minions and to the Mede Empire about Talos, yet even they seem to know nothing about the Wheel and how Talos is fortifying Mundus, and they also don't know much about the true goal of the Thalmor.

The true goal of the Thalmor has confrontated much of Auriel's teaching, and it has nothing to do with the dracochrysalis. It must be hard for any common Altmer to agree on it. So the Thalmor have to trick them into cooperation and make them believe all they're doing is for the good to all Altmer.

Talos is at the center, he fortifies the Wheel.

I think the Thalmor are Talos' greatest believers, which is why they are so determined to remove him.

From http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1249697-on-boethiahs-summoning-day/:
"You ask what of the Empire’s collapse, of new lords? I will tell you, that is what I am speaking of already. Is not the Talos Cult more persecuted than ever? The cycle need not continue - the end comes by many roads, it may be destruction or fulfillment. Do not listen to the lies. The usurpers of the East, or the West. The triadic gods wars against Talos, and would have him removed, for he sets the stars in stone which could spell their doom. They come before they are anticipated, for unless they do they may never come at all; Alduin is their antecessor, but only if Hjalti fails. Talos holds back the divines of the next world. This is why he became a divine of this one - divine yet unanticipated, thus his uniqueness. He upholds the dividing lines of the cosmos. Defends romance lest we lose it the pit of singularity."
