the planemeld

Storyline

Strange things are happening all over Tamriel. The dead stir in their graves; zombies and darker creatures congregate more and more frequently in every corner of the land. Winters grow colder and crops fail. Mystics are plagued by nightmares and portents of doom.

These events began with the Soulburst, in 2E 579, four years before present. An arcane explosion in the Imperial City set off aftershocks in every corner of Nirn. Mages died or went mad. Disasters and freakish weather lashed every province of Tamriel. Red Mountain flared and trembled in Morrowind, earthquakes shook Skyrim, and massive storms devastated the coastlines of Elsweyr and Valenwood. The constellation of the Serpent reappeared in the skies and grew so large that it seemed to threaten every star sign at once.

Unbeknownst to all but a few, Nirn has come unmoored from the fabric of the multiverse, as the mortal realm is drawn ever closer to Coldharbour, the twisted Oblivion realm of the Daedric Prince of domination and enslavement, Molag Bal. The Planemeld, a process in which the two worlds slowly become one, is threatening the existence of all races on Tamriel.

Eruptions of darkness have appeared in Nirn where one can step directly from Tamriel into Coldharbour, and they are spreading. Nirn is being drawn toward Coldharbour by Dark Anchors, powerful magical objects embedded in Tamriel’s surface. Each death in Tamriel weakens the barriers between worlds. With war erupting throughout the continent, the Planemeld is accelerated, bringing the Daedric Prince’s scheme closer to fruition.

The Imperial City, and with it, the throne of Tamriel, is controlled by Molag Bal’s followers. Necromancy has been declared legal in the Empire, and the Arcane University – once home to the Mages Guild – has been turned over to the necromancers of the Worm Cult.

The Daggerfall Covenant is rocked with undead uprisings, Valenwood and Elsweyr are invaded and form an alliance with Summerset, and an unlikely pact forms in the north and east between Black Marsh, Morrowind, and Skyrim. The three alliances take up arms against the Empire and each other, each trying to take control of the Imperial City and White-Gold Tower.

We're going to have to talk about this.To me, it sounds an awful lot like mantling- but I'm not sure by what means. How is Bal supposed to eclipse the Starry Heart with Coldharbour? I'd rather not have this turn into a circle[VEHK] about how much TES:O is going to svck, so let's start being scholars here.

Molag Bal, whose sphere is the domination and enslavement of mortals; whose desire is the harvest the souls of mortals and to bring mortals souls within his sway by spreading seeds of strife and discord in the mortal realms.

I've always thought of Princes and their Plane(t)s as embodiments/identities of their concepts. So if Arena (right smack dab in the middle of a multitude of concepts, gets pulled too far in the direction of domination, enslavement, or [censored], it makes sense for Tamriel (Empire Actual) to start looking more and more like Coldharbour physically.

So I start thinking, what concepts are specific to Tamriel? One guess would be the Aedra: love, justice, etc. So apparently when Tamriel becomes corrupt, it starts becoming more and more like Oblivion.

Am I way off?

Seems legit.

Awesome! First I wish to point out how refreshing it is to see when people have the intentions of talking about the game rather than repeatedly confirm one another that X game is the end of X franchise.

However I think I can only (with my shallow grasp compared to many others around here) confirm what you're saying. I think the entire intention is to make Starry Heart walk like Coldhabour untill Coldhabour walks like Starry Heart. I can understand why! Who wouldn't wanna Tamriel? I would say it's just finally grabbing that burger you've been coveting for as long as you can remember, except in this case the burger is a world with far more fun subjects than your own. Grabbing it would be such a prestige that your street credit would skyrocket and you would leave a big turd on the lawn of those Aedra who makes [up] the burger.

I also suppose it would be significantly easier for Coldhabour to mantle Tamriel, simply because they are already so alike. Maybe I might have gotten the wrong grip on all of this, but surely I'll be corrected or confirmed on it soon enough.

For the bolded part, it sounds exactly like what happened with the Oblivion Crisis. Mundus and the Deadlands started to merge, and there were eruptions of fire where you could step directly from Tamriel to the Deadlands.

I'm quite curious about that bit with The Serpent, though. How it disappeared then reappeared bigger than ever. Almost like the moons with the Void Nights... they disappeared, then reappeared bigger than ever.
