Confusing Roleplay Moments

Hello, and welcome to a new thread, Confusing Roleplay Moments. This thread is going to be dedicated to those moments (assuming you have them) that leave you scratching your head, without a clue as to how to roleplay.

For me it's Shrines. Not Wayshrines, but actual Shrines. Like Boethia's Shrine. There will be this Shrine out in the middle of nowhere, and there's NPCs standing around it. I look around, there's nothing to eat. No shelter. No road or pathway. Some of these shelters are in such inconvenient areas.

How did they find this place? What spurred them to come all the way out here? Umm..... i DON'T KNOW! If they live out here, day after day, why aren't they interested in building some sort of cabin? Or even put up tents?

I don't know how to roleplay this! At this moment, I haven't a clue! Arrgh!

I think even if I had a high-level character, and could start the quests associated with these Shrines, I would still have moments of oubt and confusion. NPCs standing around in the middle of nowhere (in nice clothing, sometimes) doesn't make any sense to me!

It struck me just the other day, on the subject of shrines - it must really svck to be one of those worshipers who's standing around a shrine, bowing and scraping and praying, day in and day out no matter what, and then this stranger comes waltzing in, drops off some offering or other, gets a personal audience with the god(dess), goes off and does a quick mission, comes back and gets rewarded with the most coveted of artifacts associated with the god(dess), then waltzes away, never to be seen again.

I'd be pretty upset if I'd dedicated that much time to worshiping a god(dess) and some stranger just pranced in and became the instant favorite.
