Sorry for the multiple threads, but this was something I stumbled upon while doing research for my other thread, and I thought it was interesting enough to warrant its own post.

So, the above quote comes from Uriel Septim during the opening scenes of Oblivion. I always assumed, given the context, that the "sun's companion" bit referred to Akatosh, and despite being confused about what exactly the sun has to do with Akatosh (this being before Dawnguard's Auriel lore), it never bothered me much. But this morning when I was reading the PGE, 1st Edition, I found this in the Invocation, among the 16 Acceptable Blasphemes:

".nuS gnizalB eht si ssertsim esohw NOGAD SENURHEM oT"

Which, when read in reverse, reads "To MEHRUNES DAGON whose mistress is the Blazing Sun."

So, when Uriel Septim looked at us, he saw... Mehrunes Dagon?

I'm a little confused right now.

No he saw what was to come, namely his death and the destruction of the empire...at least the Septim empire. I'm a little curious as to why it is referred to as "mistress" though, it's recognized by nearly every race that it was Magnus who created the sun when he fled. Curious indeed

Dagon really does seem to have some kind of mysterious link to Magnus.

It gives water to the Dagon is Magnus theory.

That, and Fight Two of the Aldudagga mentions that Dagon had coaxed the elves into attacking Sarthaal, which just so happens to hold the Eye of Magnus in its depths.

The Sun is also linked to Auriel in Dawnguard, and his connection to Akatosh is solidified by one of his actual Paladins. So it could be a reference to either Auriel or Akatosh rather than a more complicated sideways reference to Dagon. Or the dialogue writers may have been aware of all this and left it vague on purpose.
