Sitting animations

Post » Thu Feb 25, 2010 10:36 am

For me, the little things make the big difference. I hope the sitting animations will be better than Oblivions old 'sit erect with your hand sin your lap' animation.

I wouldn't mind it being similar to Fallout's animation, but, in my opinion, it must be better than Oblivion's.

And I better see bite marks in that apple when the NPCs go to eat it!

Have we run out of things that "must" be dramatically improved yet?

"Sitting animations - they better be good" or I just don't know WHAT I'll do.

Keep it up guys. Every thread like this makes Bethesda take their forums even more seriously.

IIRC Fallout's sitting animation wasn't much better. I do agree though, the animations could be better. Come to think of it there are alot of things that could be and probably will be better in Skyrim.

Ideally for me, would be if your character just kind of cycled through a few different ones, I didn't have anything against the one in Oblivion, except for how it was the only one there was. I mean, no-one sits in any one position all the time, every time.

Give me a few different positions that my character can cycle through while sitting in a chair, and I'll be happy.

Edit: But yeah, this is pretty far down on the list of things I want them to get to work on. I'll be happy if they get around to it, but really, I probably won't even notice once I have the game in my X-Box.

I don't care much for the animation itself, but I would like to have seamless sitting - no switching to 3rd person while playing animation. It breaks immersion (feel the caracter) for me.

Eurogamer: Oblivion and Fallout 3 were huge successes, but what can you do to improve still as a company?

Todd Howard: There's always stuff to improve. If I had to take a step back, I think our worlds are very good, I think we're on the cutting edge as far as that goes. When it comes to the characters and the animation, I think there are other people who do it much, much better. That's something we've put a lot of time into - not just technology but people and talent, and how long we spend doing individual elements.

How other characters behave and look on the screen is the next thing people need to do better. There are people doing it really well, but by and large the environments look good and it's just getting people to behave in those environments better.

Chances are good.

Agreed, not to mention the whiplash inducing switchback if an NPC talks to you.

Sitting animation better? ........sure? I am looking forward to things other than sitting. I really never sat down in Oblivion or Fall Out 3 anyway.

I don't care "how it looks" when I'm sitting down, except for the switch to 3rd person camera - truly yuck and immersion breaking indeed. However, if NPCs will sit down, I'd rather it be cool varied, and nice, rather than the uniform looking "thing" they do today. That should naturally also apply to "our" character. For me that doesn't want 3rd person, it doesn't matter. But it will for those that play using 3rd person. So yes, it should be improved.

Then again, I have to agree with AkaviriSoldier - sitting animation isn't a top priority :D
