Yeah, I've got a book thats "The Untold Plans of the US Governments reaction to a Nuclear Holocaust", it's not what I thought it would be, but it is interesting none the less. Like for instance, the American government had no real plan's for what they would do for the civilian population, only Government officials. That's what most of the book tells you about, but the way they planned to go through with it is strange and sort of sad for Americans I would guess.
I don't find this surprising really, as in the 1950's there was not much anyone could really do in an all-out nuclear scenario with the Sovients - the catastrophe would nullify any plans to respond as most of the resources would be lost, burned and not available to implement plans.
Its like the point of Einstein's famous phrase about the weapons of WWIII and WWIV; it really doesn't matter which brand of nuclear or biologic bombs are used in a WWIII - the earth and its societies will be so utterly destroyed that nothing, "civilized" will remain. Any plans made to save anyone after nuclear war are pointless.
You don't have to feel sad for American's, as the success of our nuclear deterrent cannot be denied in any corner - there was no WWIII holocost of nuclear fire, and very little probability of one starting in the future (but who knows). Either way, with 1,700+ nuclear bombs ready to go - the deterrent is still viable, though I think the, "Bridge of Ships" between China and America are a far-more effective deterrent at stopping war between our countries than a vast array of useless, expensive nuclear bombs whose only purpose in life is Not to be used!
