Death from above

Post » Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:12 am

Hello fellow wastelanders, I've been roaming around this fora for quite some time now (when we were young and waiting for new vegas to come out) but never posted something :P This changes today.

I've been pondering about this for some time. I agree with most of you that fallout should stay as far away as possible from the elder scroll gameplay but their dragons in skyrim might be usefull for fallout in a gamemechanic way of view (be assured I DO NOT want any dragons in fallout)

But the possibility of being attacked from above and making survival in the wastes harder seems a good add in my opinion.

For example: a mutated eagle or bats can attack the player from above ... And I mean really from above ... not just floating two metres (jup european) from the ground as cazadores or boatflies do.

What do you guys think ? I think it would make surviving a bit more difficult and thus more fun and would make for some nice additional quests ...

example: the walls of new vegas can protect against road critters but mutated eagles can fly over and wreak havoc on the streets. After seeing some wastelanders being ripped to pieces in what supposed to be a safe environment you get the task to go destroy their nests ... after which things would become safe again (for a little while)

now It's up to you, the people, to debate this any further :P

I absolutely hated having to fight random dragons when I was not in the mood.
It was exciting the first 5 times, after that it becames tedious, annoying and finally frustrating.
So I'd rather that gameplay mechanic stay the [censored] away from Fallout as well.

I'm not talking about a dragon that takes 20 minutes to kill ... just something with the same HP as (enter your favourite fallout critter)

they die as easily as other fallout animals, you would just have to be more carefull and watch everything around you (even the skies) ...

still not interested :P ?

So.... Cliffracers? I hate them too.

I generally don't like the idea of some enemy coming out of nowhere and attacking me when I'm not in the mood.
If there is a random deathclaw and it attacks me then it's my own fault for not keeping an eye out.
But I don't want to have to look up at the sky constantly to see if I should hide out for enemies.
Even if the enemy is not a damage sponge it will still be really annoying.

Okay :) that's an opinion I can follow ...
Thought it would make the world more realistic and therefore more immersive though

If you're talking about an enemy that's stealthy but easy to kill, then that's one thing. However, if you're saying that I can't use V.A.T.S. on them, then we have a problem.
I don't know about you guys, but when I'm traveling through seemingly dangerous territory I like to just mash V.A.T.S. just in case a deathclaw or something is 50 yds away. If there's an enemy that doesn't allow me to do that, then I'm gonna need a lot more stimpaks...

I know I would have liked it in Fallout 3 if the Vertibirds had been able to engage the lone wanderer in a more dynamic way.

The only instance I can think of them reacting to where the Lone Wanderer is, was at the control tower at Adams. After you activate the ramp, a vertibird comes in a blasts the hell out of the control room. So if you lingered too long you were toast.

I don't see why enemies in the air couldn't be V.A.T.S.E.D down like any other enemy.
And yes they are stealthy ... eagles for example: hard to spot, approach fast, hard first punch ... but if you survive that ... they won't be a huge treath anymore ... only mediocre health and damage

And didn't thought about vertibirds yet but they also would be a great addition if they more actively actacked you ... (there can be lot's of things roaming the skies as in real life ... Well lot's of different things at least).
If you are an enemy and they spot you (you can hide under bridges etcetera) they will engage (fire from the ship + dropping troops from ropes) ... But they shouldn't be encountered often + it depends on what area the next game
will be in, we don't need vertibirds in the heart of caesars empire
