Fallout 3 Freezes Windows 7 x64

I recently bought Fallout 3 over steam. I'm not sure what version of the game it is, nor whether it matters. After searching on google for an answer, I could not find one.

Windows 7 64 bit
Intel i5 Quad-core
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
Dell Studio 15 laptop

I've set the affinity of Fallout 3 to 2 processors (CPU 3 and 4) and I've tried editing the Fallout_default file that contains all the settings and such. I got the game to run a lot smoother since the changes, but the game is still freezing.

I'm on the birthday scene and I almost got past it where I was about to get my little pea shooter, then it froze. I'm getting pretty bummed cuz I know fallout is a sweet game, but I can't seem to fix this freezing problem.

A 5470 is not a gaming card. Have you cranked down the graphics settings?

I do know that this particular game and Windows 7 64 do not get along, and even under the best of conditions has lag and freezing on that OS. You have to remember that Windows 7 was not out when the game was released, so it is not optimized for this OS.

Do you have anyway to install XP on another partition? That will help with the older games that you want to play. FO3 runs better on XP.

Heck, I still have a DOS 6.22/Windows 98 SE box for the really old games like Daggerfall, Arena, Battlespire and other games from that era.
