Daggerfall: Spellmaker doesn't work

Post » Thu Sep 13, 2012 10:09 pm

I can't edit any of the values in the spellmaker. If I click on a plus or minus, nothing happens and the values just stay at 1. I can MAKE the spells, but the only values I can assign them for ANY of the variables is the default of 1.

Is it supposed to be this way, and your ability to use the spellmaker increases as you go up in guild rank, or something like that, or am I just running into a game-breaking bug? Or is there just some special counterintuitive way to do it that I haven't figured out yet? I've looked up several guides online, but none of them mention anything about your ability to change values/magnitude in the spellmaker being limited by guild rank, and I'd imagine that if such a basic function wasn't intuitive, someone would have mentioned it in a guide somewhere, so I'm guessing it's a bug. If so, has anyone else encountered this bug, and is there anything I can do about it? As far as I can tell, being able to use the spellmaker is practically necessary to play this game...

I haven't had any other issues with the UI not recognizing my commands so far. I can buy, sell, and manage my inventory just fine. The spellmaker just straight doesn't work unless I want to make nothing but spells with values of 1 for everything.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. I'm an idiot. I guess you have to click the gray boxes with shading that kind of look vaguely like up or down arrows if you squint your eyes and concentrate real hard on them above and below the values, not the plus and minus signs next to the values. Sorry I wasted your time! :op
