My thoughts on Crysis 2 and the Crysis series' direction

After playing Crysis and falling in love with it and enjoying the expansion, Warhead just as much, I was eagerly awaiting the sequel. Come the weeks leading up to Crysis 2's release. I discover the game will not support DX11 on release nor will it support even DX10. A little disappointing and disheartening, but I don't let that get me down. Knowing it's made by the creators of the masterpiece that was the original Crysis I still have hope.

Launch day, I get to the main menu. "Press Start" Wow ok, that's now two signs of a sloppy console port. Didn't stop there though did it? "Adjust the brightness on your TV". Well this is a PC. We use monitors on PC's, consoles are played on TV. Already pretty offended by the presentation of the game I proceed to begin the campaign. Excited to continue where the cliff hanger ending of the first game left off. "what happened to prophet?" "what of the nuke attack on the island?" "what role will nomad and psycho have?" were just some of my many questions. Did any of them get answered? HA! Not even close.

Instead I'm cast into the role of a new, silent character who has no ties to the original game except that he's been forced into wearing prophets nano suit (who makes a 30 second cameo at the start). That's the only thing connecting the two games. That is it. Wow ok, so continuing on I don't see any of the alien enemies from the first game. Instead just some Hunter-from-Halo lookalikes and weird gunships. So what, did the aliens from the first game just up and disappear? If they're even apart of the same species what about their need for the cold climate? So far it's looking pretty grim.

To be honest, during my entire play through I was constantly questioning myself as to why I was continuing to play this pile of crap that wasn't even deserving of the Crysis title. It was because I had hope that maybe, just MAYBE something would miraculously happen to completely change my negative and disappointed opinions of the game. Perhaps Nomad or Psycho would appear, maybe even Sean O'neill. No, nothing. Just gameplay with boring, unfamiliar enemies in a world that couldn't be further removed from the original game. Going from lush, beautiful, open world island environments to dark, claustrophobic, linear city streets really left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Cevat Yerli released a statement that he himself was disappointed in Crysis 2 but then looking at how Crysis 3 has come along so far, it doesn't look like He or Crytek for that matter have learned from their mistakes. I mean a 24 year time leap from the ending of the last game? A bow and arrow as your primary weapon and as far as I can tell there is still no explanation for all the unanswered questions the first game left. It just screams misdirection. I really don't understand how Crytek developed such masterpieces like FarCry, Crysis and Crysis Warhead but now just release consolized slop with a plot that looks as though it was written by a crackhead. I have truly lost all faith in your abilites to make decent games anymore. I truly hope you can clean up the mess that was Crysis 2 with Crysis 3 but it really doesnt look like it at this stage.

Sincerly, a former fan and dissatisfied customer.
