Armor, Clothing, and Weapons

Post » Mon Mar 01, 2010 5:34 am

What would everybody like to see for armor and attire, weapons, and more. i think they should upgrade the clothing system to be able to wear headbands and shoulder pauldrons like in morrowind, to add the ability to create a variety of what your player could choose to make in their image. more variations to create a truly unique looking player not like oblivion where you had like 20 suits of armor and ten robes. but possibly hundreds of different variations, that way more less everybodys characters wouldnt all look the same. if anybody has any ideas about the subject please share. i think they should also bring back the crossbow

I think they should definitely bring back seperate pauldrons.

Being able to dye robes and other cloth items could be a possibility.

I just hope there's a tatty ranger cloak for my Dunmer ( hood included ).

I hope there is the chance to wear clothing beneath armour again. And robes over armour.

yeah i hope they add the ability to become a lich, and wear tattered shaggy robe and hood with a pauldron or two that would be sweet.

Absolutely: the simplification of armour in Oblivion was a real disappointment, along with loosing cloaks! More variety & choice, please............in other words, what everybody is saying about the whole game!

Unfortunately if Skyrim goes the same way as Fallout3 we might just see full body outfits rather than the modular approach of Oblivion and Morrowind.

Things that need to be in TESV (THANK THE [censored] LORD ITS HERE!!!!):

1. Being able to wear separate pieces of armor like in Morrowind (right pauldron, left pauldron, right gauntlet, left gauntlet ect ect.)

2. Being able to wear clothing beneath your armor, again, like in Morrowind but MUCH more refined so it doesn't clip through the armor.

3.Thrown Weapons, Spears, different types of shields.

That's all I can think of. Hot Damn! I've been waiting for this for a LONG time.

absolutely, man it would be so sweet to be a lich, with shaggy robes and hood with a skeletal hand and they other a daedric gauntlet with a large spiked pauldron and a classic dremora pauldron from morrowind. and to be able to wear armor underneath a robe, only making your pauldrons and boots and gauntlet visible, THEY HAVE TO ADD THIS GREAT FEATURE or im gonna cry. and also something i hated was almost all the armor looked nothing alike you couldnt mix match armor without making your player look like some kind of circus clown fruit cake.

i agree with the idea of more morrowindapproach to clothing, partly because as i normally play a mage or some similar class that rarely wears armour i missed the lack of vareity when it came to robes and such

The one thing that I pray they add in are capes and cloaks as well as Seperate Pauldrons. Being able to trek around Skyrim in a Aragorn like outfit is my dream for this game.

and they should bring back a variety of armors back like the DAEDRIC face of, GOD, INSPIRATION, AND TERROR, those helms were sweet, even just for decoration.

High end Light armor fit for a stealthy character, dragonskin or something, everything past leather is bright and glittery.

  • pauldrons separate from cuirass
  • left & right pauldrons and gauntlets
  • robes-over-armor/clothes
  • clothes-under-armor
  • non-armor gloves and boots (cannot equip concurrently with armored versions)
  • visible belts (over clothes, under armor)
  • visible jewelry (piercings) for ears, eyebrows, nose
  • neck gear variety: amulet, necklace, torc, choker/collar
  • non-armored wrist gear: bangles, bracelets
  • non-armor upper arm gear (bangles, stuff-I-don't-know-the-name-of) as the clothing equivalent to pauldrons
  • crossbows, repeating crossbows, 1hand crossbows/folding crossbows
  • longbow, straight bow, recurve bow, compound bow, composite bow
  • spears (1handed & 2handed), halberds, pike, diquexe, various other pole weapons

i like where your going with this, complete variety and freedom, no restrictions. and ya know what i would like to see, is more than one type of the same armor, like daedric armor and mythic dawn armor, both are daedric, and look spectacular.

No left and right pauldrons. If they separate pauldrons (which would be cool) make them like rings, where you can wear 2 but you can put either one on the left or right.

Nothing would be more frustrating than finding 5 left pauldrons of the kind you want in a row.

Oh, God please. They need to bring it back for gauntlets and things, too. That was the one thing that Oblivion disappointed me with, I loved being able to do that with MW.

I want all of the customization that was in Morrowind, plus the rings/amulets of Oblivion. As-well-as capes and cloaks. Maybe even sheathes with belts that go around your characters chest/waist for weapons.

I want the end of flexi-robes and skirts.

I don't expect full cloth physics, but at least have robes that draqe with a swaying animation, rather than stretch and look like they are glued to everyone's knees.

Japanese devs have been doing decent robes since the PS2 days, but for some reason Bethesda and Bioware are still stuck on stretchy knee-attached robes and skirts that just look kind of ridiculous...

I hope there is the chance to wear clothing beneath armour again. And robes over armour.

I'd say that being able to wear clothing under armor again would seriously unbalance the game against unarmored characters, I mean, they sacrifice the additional protection of armor and ALSO get stuck with less enchantment slots, so I can't say I really miss being able to wear clothes under armor. Admitably, Oblivion still penalized unarmored characters by removing the unarmored skill (Which didn't work properly in Morrowind anyway, but that's a problem that can be avoided with no gameplay mechanics.) and making the frankly baffling decision to not unclude any non-armored gloves except for the wrist items, and making robes, you know, the things mages, one of the character types you might consider playing without armor, take up both the pants and shirts slot, at the very least, some even came with built in gloves and shoes as well, considerably reducing the amount of enchantment slots available to players who used them, but those are issues that can be fixed in future games, and I'd say that robes should be able to be worn over both armor and clothing. Now, I have, in the past, made characters in the Elder Scrolls that are not necessarily the most powerful, but not everyone wants to do that. And the general ideal design for an RPG is to make all character types balanced and viable, obviously, this isn't to say they should be identical, but it's usually not a good idea to intentionally design the game in a way that ends up crippling certain character types. If it is indeed possible to wear armor over clothing, than going unarmored will need a pretty big advantage to make up for the sacrifice of extra protection AND many extra enchantment slots.

I would say, however, that seperate pauldrons and gloves/gauntlets should return, as well as some kind of non-armored item that fulfills the role of pauldrons for unarmored characters, probably. I also wouldn't mind seeing belts return, and like the jewelry in Oblivion, they should be visible on your character when worn. Other than that, I hope to see cloaks and capes this time around, the best effect with these could be achieved if the game had clothing physics, but honestly, even if items like this were completely stiff like most of the ones in Oblivion and Morrowind mods, I'd still want them in the game. O also hope we see some hats this time around, I like that Bethesda added hoods in Oblivion, but why should those be the only head gear that is not armored in the game? If I'm going to go around without the protection of armor, I want to do it in style, I want to see hats and other varieties of headgear, both plain and fancy. Also, I hope that this time around, skirts are separate items from pants, like they were in Morrowind, as opposed to being like Oblivion where pants become skirts when worn by female characters. If my male characters want to wear skirts, that should be their right. That might sound strange, I know, but it's true.
