How to view Oblivion meshes?

Post » Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:36 pm

If I am looking at a mod with e.g. TES4Edit and I see that the item I am looking at references a model such as Clutter\MiddleClass\MiddleChest01.NIF, how can I view that file (and its textures, shaders and whatever else it may have) to see what it looks like?

OBMM also has a viewing facility, either than that and if you have Max do import the mesh.

Use Nifskope, in 2012 I would advise against ever using OBMM - either way you need the nif extracted from its BSA archive, so you need BSAopt too.

While I haven't had the occasion to use it yet, there is the 'http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19337' over on the Skyrim Nexus site. Works with Oblivion as well.
This utility finds the duplicate textures in up to 3 folders (the first one being the reference/vanilla folder). The duplicate textures can then be viewed side-by-side with file size and dimensions info. You can specify how many folders you are comparing when starting a new session.
Might be handy if you are looking at conflicting references and trying to pick one.
