I'm playing Daggerfall hot and heavy again after not doing much with it since it was new and shiny back in the mid-late 90s. I installed via an all-in-one game/patches/fixes/extra/DOSbox download. I'm surprised how stably the game runs. Certainly it's not nearly so crash prone as it was back in the day.

That said, I've ran into a quest ruining glitch I don't recall encountering those many years ago. It's happened twice so far, once for a Mage Guild quest and just now for a Knights of the Dragon quest. What happens is I'll get the quest, complete it within specified time limits, report back to the quest giver, and nothing. No reward. The quest giver doesn't even acknowledge me. The quest remains in my journal.

Here's the odd part: The quest giver listed in my journal entry for the assignment does not bear the same name as the fellow I report back to, though they are the same person in the same location!

On a hunch, before accepting my KotD quest I made a separate save. Returning to that save shows that at the time I took the quest the giver was indeed the fellow listed in my journal. Somehow, by the time the quest ended the giver had a different name, and didn't recognize my questing for him.

This gets a bit old. True, it's happened only two times thus far, but both those were huge dungeon crawls where I got lots of skill improves and, in one case, two great armor upgrades. Hated to back out of those...but I did.

Has anyone else encountered this, and is there a fix or at least some way to avoid it in the future?
