Reachmen, Old Gods, and Dibella

Post » Mon Oct 08, 2012 8:11 am

Maybe there's been a thread on this, but why did the reachmen want the Sybil of Dibella.. And why did they have (blood splatted) altars of Dibella?

On a sidenote about Dibella, in Morvunskar, I think.. or whatever the dungeon name is where you meet Sanguine, the mages there have a Dibella altar. This goes without mentioning that Haelga in Riften thinks she needs to hide her worship of Dibella. Why is it a point of shame for her? Is Dibella a questionable entry in the divines? I read that she was one of the original Nordic gods that Alessia incorporated into her pantheon, but I'm starting to wonder if there's more to her origins.

Haelga hides her Dibella worship, because she doesn't want the men to harass her with requests.

Dibella's gold statues remind me of the corpse Sanguine's clutching in his Dagger aspect.

I think Haelga was "ashamed" because Riften is compromised of mainly Mara worshipers. The Dibella Shrine was in Morvunskar because Dibella is the godess of that other type of love. The love that flirts with decadence and debauchery, no wonder Sanguine felt right at home.

As far as the Forsworn are concerned, I got nothing.

The Reach's Old Gods are older than the Nordic Pantheon. They likely have more in common with the Aldmeri (Ayelid and Bosmeri in particular) pantheons. I didn't know about someone wanting to hide their worship of Dibella..or is that just a euphemism?
