Well I think it really depends on your character. Clearly a good character would not blow up Megaton. And a evil character would destroy a two full of people.

So that, it seem to me, should be the criteria.

Other than than if you decide to blow Megaton up, you might want to do some or all the side quests there first. And get the Bobblehead.

From a practical standpoint, it's probably better to not blow it up. It's a centrally located town and base of operations. And there you can do trading there.

The main advantage of blowing it up (aside from being evil) is that you get to see a really nice nuclear blast from Tenpenny Towers. If you blow up Megaton, I recommend blowing it up at night. It looks great!

Yes, even if you are evil Megaton have lots of benefits, good locations and four traders if you include the doctor, the pub and the food stand.
However you can still do the wasteland survivor quest as Moria survive and move to the underworld, not sure if you can trade with her.

One thing you can do is create a hard save, blow it up and watch the show then reload and disarm the bomb.

Think you should be able to buy a suite in Tenpenny tower even if not blowing up Megaton, perhaps taking care of the ghouls first and then pay 10-20K caps for it so it became a money sink like houses in Oblivion.

Make your hard save BEFORE arming the charge.

Or just watch the explosion on Youtube as many times as you want and just disarm the bomb.

Beautiful

@OP: Don't feel restricted by karma. Rationally, getting rid of a bunch of morons who has settled down next to an unexploded atomic bomb could be seen as a contribution to the future of mankind. The game rewards you with bad karma, I know, but true geniuses and prophets are always misdjudged by their time.

Remember Maggie? For some reason, I don't like the thought of blowing a defenseless nine-year-old into a cloud of radioactive ions. Call me crazy.

In all my numerous playthroughs, I've never wiped Megaton from the map before... until now.

I did it at level 2, lost an unholy amount of karma, but shortly worked my way back to Neutral, where I wanna be.

I've only ever blew up Megaton once, I really don't see what you have to gain by doing so.
Even if I'm playing an evil character i always save the town as I much prefer the megaton house and as someone else has already said there is 4 traders in the town.

I wouldn't blow up megaton the reward isn't worth it at all even if your an evil character.

But how do the ghouls stand her?

if you going to play the game a few times, blow up megaton at least once. i think the penny home is better than the one in megaton.

But it takes longer to access, I think. Megaton is convenient. And I see no reason to blow up several useful traders.

On the xbox a glitch sometimes give you free access to the TT-suite. I don't know what triggers the glitch and rumors says that it can reset and lock you out again. You may loose a lot of stuff that way, so use it carefully if it occurs.

I believe that it's the only way to have both places (on xbox).
