It's easy to read & understand and it's not trying to be uber-serious. I love it. With some of the other fan fic on here that I've tried to read, I've been like,

Same here... Too bad the author was accused of being pirate. YARR!!!

I also like the now-defunct fanfic "Of Fate, Luck, and Ambition," written by a former forum regular, who mysteriously disappeared.

My favorite still-living fanfic is "The Nereveragaine"... cracks me up

The King and I - Excellently writen and very easy to get lost in.

Of Fate Luck and ambition - A very lovely meld of the different questlines of the Oblivion game into one funny/dramatic/exciting story.. Shame it doesnt look like BSparrow will be adding to it any time soon.

For Morrowind, I quite like this one: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3049562/1/Chronicles_of_the_Nerevarine by Omega Gilgamesh. I particularly like the section with the Hortator quests; the main character's method of becoming Hlaalu Hortator is sheer brilliance.

For Oblivion: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4300403/1/Anyone_can_Listen by Zerbinetta, a wonderful parody of Mary Sue fics.

Through the Trees, by Brian S. A masterpiece. Also anything written by DarkNova, Treydog and FC4.

I forgot to mention that I also very much enjoyed Peleus's original A New Kind of Warfare.

Sorry, but it's thread necromancy time!

This is simply too useful an idea to let go of. For those new to the TES fanfiction arena, a list of recommended stories for them to start with. :)

Anyway, here's a few of my suggestions:

Full Length Stories

http://www.gamertales.com/EStales/mistandmysticism.php (This is also available at The Scribes Tavern http://tesfiction.proboards.com/index.cgi if you find that site difficult to read. In order to view it there though you have to sign up.)

Edit: I also highly recommend the story "The Tale of Matthias Etanne" by Hadrian. Sadly I cannot find a link at the minute, so if anyone knows where it's posted could they put it up?

Short stories and novella length

Edit: I also highly recommend the short story "My Heart" by Shades. Sadly I cannot find a link at the minute, so if anyone knows where it's posted could they put it up?

This is just a selection of some of what I consider to be the finest stories written in the TES universe in the several years I've spent reading them. I hope others gain as much enjoyment and inspiration from these as I have :)

I have sadly been without mood or time to read many of the fanfics I once enjoyed, but The King and I is wonderful, as is Of Fate, Luck and Ambition.

I can barely even keep writing my own story, let alone read others. I need to read Darknova's new one soon.

And has anyone heard from allshallfade recently? I've been keeping an editor-copy of her work on my hard drive, correcting the spelling mistakes and whatnot for her. :P

There is definitely a lot of high quality fan-fics on these forums. I really like 'The Nerevagaine' by Helena. It is absolutely hilarious and never fails to make me laugh. But at the same time it maintains a great story that you can take seriously. Alongside that it flows very well.

The Onyx Crusade and Manic Dementia are good also.

The King and I by Rumpleteaza is absolutely brilliant.

Anything by Redsrock- he is as talented as he is prolific. He moves with ease from long to short forms...

Looking at some of the stories linked here, I've found this one http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4325032/5/White_and_Black, and I've been reading and enjoying it a lot. The Mary Sue parody on another story of the same author is hilarious. :P
