Morrowind Mod Recommendations

Post » Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:16 pm

Hi guys, I've seen many many people say how great Morrowind is and that it's the best TES game, even after Skyrim was released. So after spending hundreds of hours playing Oblivion and Skyrim already I've finally decided to give this game a go. However, I've pretty much decided to not experience vanilla, and go straight for mods first time round, since the graphics are obviously outdated, and games have come a long way recently.

I'm writing this post hoping that MW vets can give me a short list of must-have mods, because frankly those mod lists stickied are unbelievably long and I don't think I have the time to check each of them out. Just about every popular mod released I have used for Oblivion, so I'm not new to this stuff. And I use popular mods to save myself the hassle of cleaning, and having them organized automatically by BOSS.

Onto the specifics, note all I've listed I'm looking for MW equivalents.

1. First things first, do MW mods work like in OB? Is there wrye bash, obmm, boss, mwse, mwge, other utilities?

2. Unofficial MW patch?

3. Graphics overhauls?

4. Other graphics mods? Suggest anything big and popular here really, body mods, texture improvement mods, etc etc.

5. Other must have mods. Anything you found which simply improved the game 10 times let me know!

Cheers guys

I figured this will get me started real quick  And don't worry about performance issues my pc can handle anything, well, almost.

Edit: Eh I guess I might be getting a bit too lazy lately, one glance at the mod list stickied and already saw some which answered my questions...still would be nice to see what everyone have been using lately :)

1.
a. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1331996-yacobys-wrye-mash-fork/.
b. There is a MWMM floating around somewhere, but just use Wrye Mash to install your mods, it has much more functionality.
c. http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox
d. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mwse/
e. http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/41102
There's also the http://timeslip.chorrol.com/exeopt.html and the http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

2. http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html (Download the edited version, it's the most stable.) and the http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/19510/

3. http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/36945/is the most current and includes pretty much all the utilities and unofficial patches I just mentioned.

4. http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/3880, and there are literally dozens of texture packs. http://www.paulcarr.com.au/elderscrolls/textpacks/might be of some help.

5. Honestly, I encourage you to play vanilla (gameplay wise at least) for an hour or two (preferably a couple of days, but an hour or two will work as well), then decide what you want to change.

Morrowind utilizes only one core, and it is incredibly CPU intensive. So you most likely will have some performance issues if you decide to go all out.

Some things to remember: Morrowind is much more like old school RPGs then Oblivion and Skyrim. It utilizes dice roll mechanics which can be really frustrating the first time you play. You will die and you will fail at things. If you're swinging a sword with low weapon skill and low agility, you won't hit anything. And also, fatigue is very important. You're more likely to succeed if you have a full fatigue bar than you are with a low one.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Vvardenfell

5) Here are several mods I would recommend you to check out

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8175 - solves the problem of people blocking your way in narrow passages
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=838 - Tribunal DB attacks don't start right away (great house Hortator or ashlander Nerevarine prerequisite)
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=2737 - never again will you have to re-adjust your perfectly placed alchemy set (if you are into alchemy this is a must)
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8471 - provides a relief to the immersion breaking rumors fiasco introduced by Bloodmoon

+1

Invest the time to learn to use Wrye Mash. I use it primarily for file management, but it can do so much more, especially when you need to 'fix' your savegames because you added or updated a mod in your game.

Keep in mind that if you use MGE XE it includes MWSE and so you don't need to run MWSE separately.
