Blizzard goes Facebook

Summary: Blizzard wants to create this feeling of total friendliness and togetherdom, dude, and we'll always see each person's real (yes, complete with fore and surname) name under their posts on the new SC2 and WoW forums. That's like family, man!

I myself have refrained from leaving my real name anywhere public on the net and shall do so in the future. Facebook and any carbon copies of it I did stay away from. Do you people enjoy your anonymity on the net, how would you feel if this were common? Do you think this is an ample measure to increase the community feeling, or just some troll control machine which could be abused by the nastier denizens of the web?

MODS: Overlooked the other thread, this one can be closed.

10 threads down, dude.

But, anyway: I guess this means I'll have to write in Farley McPoop as my real name in battle.net?

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. In order to be cool, they have to lose some interest. Wow, that's so cool.

If it doesn't effect you then why care? I mean unless you frequent the Blizzard forums, it really isn't a huge deal.

Well in the starcraft beta, they were talking about implementing facebook into the game, and there was even a facebook syncing thing. It seems like its the new thing to do, as our forum boards has a facebook app too.

EDIT: May I say that the two are probably nothing a like though.

I think something along the line like this from other companies:

"OMG A MULTI-BILLIONAIRE BLIZZARD IS MAKING PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE NET THE NORM! WE SHOULD DO IT TOO!"

But I must complain about what a company does on a gaming forum!

Yep, it allows me to express myself much better, irl im usually quiet and dont say much, here its great being anonymous, but its a shame so many abuse it.
