who is sithis?

Post » Fri Nov 02, 2012 4:54 pm

I know Sithis is "Evil" but i'm starting to pull from the Nine worship, so I want to know what Sithis stands for, what are his goals or believes? or at least where can i find something that leans in that direction. The night mother is a servant of Sithis right? if not maybe that would help to. thanks guys

SITHISNOT.

Translation:

Sithis Is Not.

Which isn't much less cryptic. ;)

SITHISNOT.
This. Despite what the Dark Brotherhood believe Sithis isn't some super powerful skeleton guy that has a thing for souls. Sithis (Padomay) is simply is not. Nothing more.

Sithis is an it. It is the dividing force of the universe, hence:

"Sithis sundered the nothing and mutated the parts, fashioning from them a myriad of possibilities."http://www.imperial-library.info/content/sithis

It's kind of controversial. Sithis is the void. He represents non-existence. For this reason, many think he is not really personified in the way the other gods tend to be. No goals, motivations, etc. Many also speculate that the Night Mother is Mephala trolling again.

No...there are lots of other options. In fact, why not become a god yourself?

Sithis is one face worn by many different forces and beings.

It refers to the Padomaic essence, from which some say Lorkhan was begot.

It refers to the Dark (a word which the frail mortal mind uses to approximate a condition beyond its understanding) antithesis to Anuiel, those silences that translate the white noise of Light into music.

It refers to the Psijic impetus of chaos, a linguistic corruption of that Order's deliberately unpronounceable PSJJJJJ.

It refers to a void-god worshiped by the Dark Brotherhood, and seems to have some power over the souls of its servants.

It refers to an ancient spirit by which the twelve worlds of creation were connected, and is recognized by the Hist of Argonia to this day.

Some will tell you that Sithis doesn't exist, and they are correct. But Sithis does, and so does Sithis. Sithis is really just a misnomer, but Sithis is the true name of Sithis, and Sithis exists independent of them all.

I say this with my Sithis Face.

there's a lot more to talos' ascent to godhood than that

anyway, it could be said your character is already a god if you play on the PC. you have access to the console and "toggle god mode"; and the ability to create / wipe something from existence with the construction set. sounds like a diety, no?

It's a long story and there's already enough threads dedicated to it, but basically he imitated a powerful mythic event and became part of an enantiomorph (there's a recent thread you can check for more info). Luckily, you may or may not have done the exact same thing as Dragonborn...

Here's what The Monomyth says
All Tamrielic religions begin the same. Man or mer, things begin with the dualism of Anu and His Other. These twin forces go by many names: Anu-Padomay, Anuiel-Sithis, Ak-El, Satak-Akel, Is-Is Not. Anuiel is the Everlasting Ineffable Light, Sithis is the Corrupting Inexpressible Action. In the middle is the Gray Maybe ('Nirn' in the Ehlnofex).

In most cultures, Anuiel is honored for his part of the interplay that creates the world, but Sithis is held in highest esteem because he's the one that causes the reaction. Sithis is thus the Original Creator, an entity who intrinsically causes change without design. Even the hist acknowledge this being.

Anuiel is also perceived of as Order, opposed to the Sithis-Chaos. Perhaps it is easier for mortals to envision change than perfect stasis, for often Anuiel is relegated to the mythic background of Sithis' fancies. In Yokudan folk-tales, which are among the most vivid in the world, Satak is only referred to a handful of times, as "the Hum"; he is a force so prevalent as to be not really there at all.

In short, he's complete chaos to Anuiel's complete stasis. In computer terms, he'd be 0 to Anuiel's 1.

Know what I don't get?

Why is "Order" white and "Chaos" black? Why isn't it the other way around? Order is stasis, little to no change. Why is it not black, the absence of light/energy? Chaos is activity, much change. Why is it not white, the maximal level of light/energy?

I don't know. Perhaps it shows a bias for the Altmeri worldview (ie stasis = good)

For that matter, I don't understand why Sithis worshippers like to surround themselves with the trappings of evil.

They don't worship Sithis. They worship Sithis.

And not many people actually worship Sithis. The Dark Brotherhood has become little more than a band of psychopaths.

They're a group of rebellious teenagers who've just discovered Nietzsche.
