Marriage and Internet.

How did they survive. I'm guessing marriage was brought from vault dwellers. But Internet? How did the network survive. And if it isn't internet it has to be something similar.

What internet, the only thing similar to the internet from my experience have been PoseidoNet and EnclaveNet, seeing as how PoseidoNet was linked to places like the Oil Rig, NORAD and such well I'm sure that the 'clave communication pretty high on their lists of things to keep safe.

What do you mean by internet? There is no internet in the Fallout universe.

Edit: The Enclave beat me to it. :D

and marriage would have survived the same as any other cultural tendency. There was a significant number of people who survived the bombs outside of the vaults and not everything was wiped out.

As far as I know the internet was never invented in the fallout universe. There might have been something like the internet but on a much smaller scale, like all of the computers in a building being linked some how.

Perhaps smaller scale isn't the right term, perhaps limited in scpoe.

We know there are WANs - posidonet being one example. However they seem to be disjointed and more on a terminal - mainframe basis than the real worlds networks.

Edit: I feel I have to add here, Absence of Evidence isn't evidence of Absence - There is little, if any evidence supporting a public internet, but there's so much about the pre war period that is unknowable.

Well I mean you can send E-mails from terminals. We know this. Is this PosiedoNet? Not like the Internet we have.

The e-mails are only on a localized network (within a company for instance). So its not the internet.

Oh then My bad. The Network must be huge, if you read Sarah Wintrubs Terminal, apart from Sheldons Message She has one from someone else thanking her. I can't remember every detail but I think it was from letting her and her husband stay at the Vault or something like that.

Basically, there technically IS internet. It's not the internet we think of today with websites but rather instant communication relays with the ability to send photos and text.

And the internet isn't likely world wide, merely one country most likely as America in the Fallout universe was ultra paranoid of other countries. As for Post-War, obviously only Vaults and the Enclave would have that kind of technology.

As for marriage, they still have marriage. Just ask Angela and Deigo...oh wait, you can't...because I killed them.

A Network, an internet (notice small i), and the Internet (Capital I) are different things. Fallout has shown for the most part networks, and perhaps on enterpretation internets (internetworked networks), but no "Internet".

Your Works LAN - Network.
Using your ATM card in another country - uses an internet, but not the "Internet" (the host bank connects to your bank via an "interbank network" {eg CIrrus for Mastercards and Maestro cards, Visas use PLUS}. Networks connecting to networks is an internet, but this is seperate to the "Internet")
