After 2+ Years, How Do You Keep FNV New and Enjoyable?

Post » Mon Nov 05, 2012 3:56 pm

As we all know, Fallout New Vegas has been out for quite some time now. It's one of my favorite games and Fallout is one of my favorite series but sometimes I have trouble sticking with a character for a full playthrough. I was just curious how you guys keep the game feeling new after being through the same quests and dialogue dozens of times already.

Of course I always take breaks to play other games or partake in my other hobbies for a while before coming back to it, but even when I'm really in the mood to play FNV, I still may have trouble staying with it. I think it might be the first few quests through Goodsprings, Nipton, Primm, etc. that I get so tired of. I've tried playing through the beginning different ways to try and skip these areas but it seems like you pretty much have to go through them or get killed by Deathclaws/Cazadores.

So do you guys have any tips for keeping New Vegas fresh?

Mods.

And I of course try out things I haven't done before.
I still haven't done the Thorn arena.

I take breaks on other games, right now I'm playing the hell out of Sins of a Solar Empire. I use mods; Project Nevada, Nevada Skies, Electro City, WMX and NVEC are my main ones. I also create new characters with unique faction or weapon restrictions.

Right, mods. If only I had a PC to run this. I would gladly pay for this game again.

Different philosophies. For example I never did the Van Graffs questline, asked myself which kind of character would complete it and made one that would. Built him specifically around that quest.
Different weapons. Different weapons are good with different builds, so I try to make different builds focused on different weapons to make them work. For example I wanted to see if a hunting shotgun, slug rounds and trigger discipline could snipe, making the hunting shotgun effectively an all-around weapon that covered every need since it has so many ammo types. Turns out it could indeed snipe.

Dead-is-dead. It feels x1000 times better if you know your character would've actually survived to complete the deeds and accomplishments you had him complete.

Explosives.

Lots of explosives.

Now, what do you get with a random pile of mugs & land mines in fiend territory? Shrapnel bomb!

each time out is different. there have things i have found thingws recently that i didn't find the first few times out.

also lately my PC is female. dressing females up is almost as much fun as dressing them down. there are some sixy outfits that veronica and cas will wear. dressing those two doesn't get old fast.

I tried to get back into it, but then I played OWB. I've been meaning to go back to it for a while.
