Trying to Get Into the Older Games...

Is there any advice you guys can give me? I've tried Fallout 2 maybe 6 times and never got past the stupid trial area. I either get frustrated, lost on what to do, feel like I screwed up building my character's stats, or die and give up on that attempt. I really love Fallout New Vegas and 3 and have wanted to get through the older games since hearing great things about them. I honestly don't know why I keep giving up so easily but I always get the craving to come back and try it again so I figured maybe you guys could help me out on it.

And should I go back further and play through 1 first? I think I've heard that it's free but I could be wrong. If it's just as good or better than Fallout 2, then I'll try and get through that first. But if you guys have any tips or advice for someone who has never played through an older RPG like this before I would gladly appreciate it.

I would have definitely have played the first before the 2nd one. Also because there are no waypoints and spelled-out-for-you objectives, you have to read and pay attention to everything that is said in the game. What about your character makes you feel that you build him/her wrong?

If you play Fallout you might get a better feel on how to create characters and turned based fighting.

Some advice. Unarmed is a good way to get through the temple. And Charisma is worth nothing so you can set it at one. A better way to help would be if you have a character in mind. Like if you want and unarmed guy, sniper or energy weapons. That way we can help you with builds.

I normally go with unarmed, small guns and speech as my tags.
