Best Graphic Overhauls for 2012

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 1:17 pm

Hello everyone,

I am searching for the best graphics overhaul mods for Oblivion. I did a search of the forum and extensive googling, and all I am able to come up with is quarl's texture pack. I have played hundreds of hours of Oblivion, but this will be my first outing for it on the PC. I would like all of your recommendations on how to get the game to look the best. Some of the work done on Morrowind, for example, really made the game come alive despite being over a decade old. I will of course be adding content mods and overhauls and all of those, but I can't seem to find the best graphics mod. Thanks in advance for your help!

EDIT: I have a high end rig and should be able to run anything

You'll have to read through some mod lists to find the recommendations, I'm afraid. Overhaul packages are a sore subject on the Oblivion forums. Every once in a while someone suggests putting one together, and is met with furious opposition about it being a terrible idea, despite how awesome it would clearly be for first-timers such as yourself to quickly and easily dip into the modding scene and see how some of the most popular visual mods look on your PC.

The UESP has a great page for essential mods, and links to popular mod lists that other users have put together: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Recommended_Mods

QTP3 is indeed the standard texture replacer, but make sure you use the Redimized variant as it saves on an insane amount of VRAM for very little loss in visual quality: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/26038

Good luck, and post here if you have any issues/questions :)

Thanks so far, I'm checking those out now. Any recomendations on character models such as improved faces or hair styles?

Edit: well, i'm coming from nexus mod manager with skyrim and I must say I have no idea how to use the Oblivion mod manager lol. I can't seem to get many of the mods working
