is it made of leather, or something similar? and better yet, does anyone think the amount of protection it provides is somewhat realistic, and does anyone have any cool ideas to modify it? i have one, but ill wait to see if anyone says it.....

Yes, it is made of leather.. That is why it is called leather armour.

Now, where the leather may have come from is unknown. Though, all you need to make leather is just the hide of an animal (or human).

Well think of it this way.

Do you have skin? Yes.

Most mammals/reptiles have some external covering of their body. Basically that is a hide if skinned.

Just dry it out, apply some liquid in which will cause it to harden & stay flexible, & ta da. You have leather. It really doesn't matter where it came from. The end result tends to be the same.

no. i think a deathclaw hide would protect a little more then a mole rats.... although if someone was tough enough to kill and skin a deathclaw i wouldn't try to shoot at them....

That is one of the variables. An organisms outer protection will differ most of the time. Some might have a more bulky skin to allow for insulation & so forth. Just depends on the organism your using. Though, I doubt leather armour i made from deathclaw hide. More than likely it would protect more..
