What's stopping the whole of tamriel becoming one game?

Don't get me wrong , I am not slagging off Bethesda at all I literally just want to know the technical issues that game developers have to conquer in order to construct huge games. In how many years do you think this will be possible and do you think in around a decade it will be possible to make the whole of nirn in to one game?

The elder scroll online MMO is doing this.
For the standard game an single province is large enough.

The problem is balancing scale with hand-craftedness.

On the one hand, you have game like Daggerfall... which is HUGE, but incredibly generic. Then you have a game like Skyrim, with a gameworld that's tiny, but detailed and hand-crafted. If they wanted to cover the whole of Tamriel (again, as they did it with Arena), then they would need to find some kind of compromise between the two.

I don't think there's any rush to do it yet though. There are several provinces which deserve their own game first... either on their own or paired together.

Ahhh I get you. But when do you think they'll develop the tech to craft a stunning game , but yet make it huge?

Hmmm maybe , but in a few years I can see myself expecting more. I know , I know it sounds extremely spoilt. =]

Skyrim is incredibly detailed, next to nothing in Skyrim is generic in design. If they were to release a game that took place over all of Tamriel it would be far too big to fit on one disc. Unless of course they made everything extremely generic. Do you really want a game where every dungeon looked the same? I prefer to have a province that is highly detailed to a continent that is generic and the same. If you want a game over all of Tamriel then you could play Arena or wait or TES Online.
