Do you want to know what exactly happened to the Dwemer?

Post » Tue Nov 13, 2012 9:39 pm

Would you like them returning, or an explenation to what exactly happened to them? Or do you like the fact that its a mystery?

Personally I hope Bethesda never goes there. Because I love it being a mystery. And I feel any advancement in that mystery would ruin some of the charm of the elder scrolls. Sure, Im curious as hell! But I know that IF I found out... It would leave a hole that in the end - wouldnt be worth it.

Your opinions on this?

We already know what happened to them, with a few details left out. No, I don't want them to fully explain what happened to them, we need some mystery. Seeing how Anakin became Darth Vader was one of (many) reasons why Star Wars is ruined imo.

I agree completely. Dwemer delving would never be the same.

Well, seeing how Anakin became Vader isn't really the problem so much as sloppy, [censored] writing. Mystery can be explained and the subject matter still be good without all the mystique if it's done properly, and having a beautiful, creative explanation is always better, in my opinion, than the mystery cop out, however enticing it can be.

Don't we already kind of know what happened to the Dwemer via MK and the College of Winterhold side quest?

Spoiler
The Dwemer merged with numidium and Arniel(?) merged with the nearest divine source (the Dovahkiin).

If you believe the Golden Skin theory like I do, I think the lesson it teaches of how pride and hubris made these people doom themselves makes up for the loss in mystery.

I would be surpremely disappointed if Bethesda chose to give the Dwemer a living, breathing, role.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/final-report-trebonius explained quite a lot.
There's also the quest Arniel's Endeavor in Skyrim, which had somewhat of a practical explanation.
The Dwemer returning would be a lousy move. The ruins and quests would lose their charm. Sometimes a mystery is better off... as a mystery.
