Why are mudcrabs so suicidal?

Hello. Just wondering. Why are mudcrabs so hostile towards humans? You would think they would be scared of human/humanoid characters because of how big they are, yet no matter what they charge you like they are going to take you down. What's with these suicidal crabs?

I kind of have the same question about wolves too. Cyrodiilian wolves seem to be solitary creatures that don't move in packs. One wolf attacking a fully armored human is a bit silly. And then they have the nerve to fight to the bitter end. Are they insane, possessed wolves? Stupid wolves? Depressed wolves that want to end it all? Maybe I'm looking too much into this...

So yeah, give me your theories on why mudcrabs are so damn unfriendly :D.

They just made animals hostile because they think everyone wants to fight all the time, regardless against what. They could easily have made them friendly but nooooo :shakehead:

Mudcrabs are big. I figure tiny elves would be on their menu. Dunno why they would try to attack one of those giant Legion soldiers or some big Nord warrior though. Just doesn't make sense. My character gets a break from the wolves though - they won't attack wood elves. Must be a pointy ear thing.

hmm...don't know...at least in Skyrim, they made wolves look like vicious rabid creatures and made several at one time. in Oblivion the dogs and wolves looked the same but not sure. maybe the gates have driven everything nature against humans...but mudcrabs? don't know...i guess we may be threatening eggs or something...

There's an explanation... waaay back in Morrowind.

Of course, as an outlander like myself you must know very little about mudcrabs. They are small creatures with a hard shell. They live mostly along the coast and they're usually not aggressive... but if they ever get the taste of meat, they become hunters. Some naturalists believe they are related to the Emperor Crab.

Nemida, of the House Redoran early quests, will say this if you ask her about Mudcrabs.

What really gets me are the mountain lions. I happen to live in an area where mountain lions are common and they are really reclusive creatures, avoiding human contact when at all possible. Human attacks are extremely rare, and when a mountain lion does attack, either a deer or a human, it typically prefers to do a sneak attack aiming to paralyze the prey quickly with a bite to the back of the neck. Last thing a mountain lion wants is a stand up fight cause they might get hurt, which in the wild could be a death sentance. So, yeah, every time a mountian lion runs up to my fully armed and armored character with a wild frontal attack, I think it must be rabid or something.

Bottom line: Cyrodiil is not Earth. On Cyrodiil the rules are different. Not just for enemy creature despertion, but also for gravity, storage, psychic NPCs ... the list goes on and on.

Thank you. :ermm:

I like the Morrowind explantion, too. .

I grew up in Florida. There were lots of crabs there that lived on the beech. If you messed with their holes, they would come out and attack you. Although one crab just threw sand at me from the mouth of his hole. During the Land Crab migration where they would move inland to lay eggs, if they were on the road, they would turn towards the cars with their claws up as if to attack. I was real gross driving over them.

Anyway, I will say that crabs are pretty aggressive when you mess with their world.
