Faction wars.

Ok, so i was thinking, "Guilds and clans are boring as heck.!". I want Bethesda to make elder scrolls guilds and clans to interact with each other. I want the mages guild to not like the ways of the Necromancers guild(if there is one i hope there will be in Skyrim) or the Darkbrother hoods ways. Or the fighters guild against the thieves guild because they steal from the innocent. It would allow more quests that would be interesting against other guilds. It would also bring more reality to the game. I mean in Oblivion you can be the leader of all the guilds. So in real life that would be like you being the president, Governor, and Senate. Really? No, i think that lets say your the arch mage of a mages guild, you shouldnt be allowed in the thieves guild because of whatever reason the mages dont like them. This should apply a lot of sense and make guilds more "worth" being in. You choose a side not all of them.

Your opinions?

Of course, and they've done it plenty before so I imagine they'll do it again.

They hinted at something like it in the teaser, so I'm hopeful that at some point in your journey, you'll encounter resistance between two joinable factions.

I think what they were mentioning in the trailer was closer to civil war than just factions waring each other, but that doesn't mean it won't happen!

Factions hating each other is realism. And necromancy isn't evil, the Mages' Guild isn't anti-necromancer, look past Clichevion...

It would be nice with some rivalry between factions like the great houses in Morrowind.

Yes, maybe a few active quests against another guild/faction, but otherwise it should be subtle, but noticeable.

I would be very surprised if guilds and factions did not intermingle and have conflict in Skyrim.

And just think how cool it would be if you had your choice of 'faction' in a civil war? It almost puts the Morrowind houses to shame!

I agree, however there were conflicts between guilds and factions in Morrowind so this isn't a new concept for Beth.

Of course. Faction alliances and enmities, disposition bonus or drop according to allegiances, inability to join them all, crossover quests, infiltration-and-destroy quests, etc. Make it more dynamic.

Oblivion tried to have conflictual guild-quests, but since the struggles were designed to be internal, it seemed a little bit faked - hey, let's make a kind of rival/traitor shadow-guild inside the Fighters' guild, it's not happening suddenly at the same time in any other guild ! Make a choice, Bethesda. You want to make it dynamic and realistic-like, you can't allow the player to have access to all guilds equally and simultaneously with a single char.

i think that the great houses of morrowind were a start, but it would be much more interesting if the relationship was more hostile and felt more volatile (like house telvani issuing an attack on a recent redoran outpost)

Well i was implying more of an aggresive way of faction wars. Such as if a necromancer sees a mage guild member walking down the street the necro would follow him until its secure and attack him. Like how you got attacked by the dark brotherhood in Morrowind. :celebration:

Let me explain again, Necromancy is legal first of all, so Mages' Guild can't do squat. Second of all, the Mages' Guild allowed necromancers in, except for Traven. Third of all, when Traven banned Necromancy, half the council quit.

Absolutely. They need to have scale though. For example the mages guild and fighters guild might have some bickering and general dislike of one another. Maybe two different types of as fighters guild would have competition and envy, race to get contracts before the other one.

But competition between, Oh let's say, the Morag Tong and the Darkbrotherhood ( I'm only bringing it up because nobodys talking about it :lmao: ) then it should be assassinations of the members of the rival faction, ambushes and sabotaging large groups and important members, and trying to completely eradicate the rival faction. Basically a full blown(underground) war.

If it's political factions fighting it would be mostly be spreading slander, framing leaders for crimes they didn't (or catching them at ones they did) commit. Maybe one assassination for that entire series of quests, but it wouldn't become commonplace.

This would make you choose sides more, and it would add to realism. Let's face it people, we live in a fallen world, not everyone is holding hands and singing Kumbaya <-------- Spelling of that is almost certainly wrong, sorry

Yes, I want to see it, but its also been done... In Morrowind you were pitted against other factions frequently but the thing is, it was almost always you acting on behalf of the guild you joined against the other guilds... I want to see a world that more alive, that lives, breaths, and interacts regardless of player action, so while it should be rare, and fleeting occasionally Morag Tong putting out a contract on a DB leader and succeeding would be an appreciated note, and then hearing the rumors, seeing the plotting, intercepting a not written by a NPC, or some other such thing would make the game feel much much more deep.

While the majority of the players feel this way, its not the massive majority. Thus because there is a large minority, primarily self-indulged individuals who cry whenever the spotlight is taken away from them because the world doesn't revolve around them and their "The Hero!" this will never happen... Its to scary for the casual gamer, or even the Action Adventure gamer crowd drawn in by the new Oblivion play-style to deal with a world that might do things their unaware of, or that has more depth and things to explore. They must know everything and the concept of actions taking place in the background places them on edge. Since this includes a large portion of the fanbase, and Bethesda knows they won't lose anyone by NOT including such immersion, while they might if they do, they will choose not to both because its easier and saves development time, and because they don't want to upset our simple minded little friends who want to bask in the glory that is "I",
