Real Katana for Goldbrand/Eltonbrand?

Post » Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:13 pm

So, I'm a huge fan of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6016, especially the way that it (realistically) makes katanas two-handed. However, I'm disappointed that it leaves out Goldbrand and Eltonbrand, though. Has anybody encountered a mod that updates them? I've been unable to find one, and it'd be great.

I've never tried http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2239 but it has a new Mesh (really needs a new Texture though)

Changing a weapon's Mesh is very easy to do yourself. You could use one of the Real Katanas as your Goldbrand if you wanted. Or maybe one of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7209 (ok well, they're not exactly gold :P )

Uh, the first one doesn't make Goldbrand two-handed and the second one has NOTHING to do with Goldbrand. That's my whole point in making this thread. I want to know if there's a mod that updates it AND makes it two-handed. One-handed katanas = fail.

Sorry about that, I didn't read close enough. :P
Making a One-handed sword into a two-handed sword is even easier to do. You just have change Goldbrands stats: change LongBladeOneHand to LongBladeTwoClose. Click Save.

And no, I don't believe anyone has made an updated Mesh for Goldbrand.
You can get a higher res Texture for it though, in Darknut's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6143 (which is highly recommended)

*Ahem* :whistling:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8253 :P

Though this does not make it two handed, I may make an addon for it, if I get the time.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8253 one is a straight mesh replacer (blades are still one handed) but it does make the mesh more realistic.

EDIT: Just realized, ninja'd :ninja:

I 've recently found the wonderful work of Fallen One and especialy this serie of pluginless replacers : http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8352 . the Goldrand replacer is beautiful and very long when compared with the vanilla meshe. It's still one-handed but you could easily modify this in the Construction Set.

1 Open the tesc
2 In File-> Data File select Morrrowind.esm and click ok, let it load.
3 In the Object Windows click on Weapons
4 seach for an item named katana_goldbrand_unique in the row ID then double-click on the ICON just before the the ID
5 Congratulation you have open the property windows of Goldbrand
6 the type of GoldBrand is LongBladeOneHand
7 move it to LongBladeTwoClose then click on Save
8 now GoldBrand is a two-handed katana
9 you know now how to modify the existing weapons but under any reasons
you shouldn't modify the ID of one already excisting object or you will crash your game !
10 Save your plugin with an explicit name
11 now clean your esp with Testool from the GMST ( for more info look the related topics )
12 create a back-up of your savegames
13 load the clean esp in the data file but DON'T launch the game
14 use Wrye Mash to smooth the instalation of your plugin and upgrade your savegames with it.( for more info look the related topics )
15 Now you can test your new sword

N.B. : if you have already the modified object in your inventory put it up on the ground and save your game before you load your plugin
and use wrue mash to prevent bugs to occur.

One-handed katanas = fail.

Katanas are not Claymores. :) They can be dual wielded in real life like most swords, extremely difficultly I should add. Not impossible though. Not to mention be used with a shield if you are an expert.

Katanas are more like Bastard swords than anything else. Either one handed or two handed.
A light sword like most Katana can be used with one or two hands. Daedric should so be two handed. :)

That said, arguments aside, the heavier the weapon the less likely it is able to be wielded in one hand.
Perhaps you're thinking of a Nodachi? Which is a very large two handed Katana class weapon.

Also, I'm not trying to make you angry, I'm just showing what I know.
Also, yeah, D-11 has it right. They should be used in two hands.
However, should, doesn't mean must. :)

Actually, to get a good grip on a katana and power behind it you SHOULD use two hands. This is AFAIK mostly to hold the blade straight so you don't curve the edge

yack yack yack

I'm well aware of how katanas work, and that they can be used in one hand. What I should typed was "one handed katanas + morrowind = fail" because they (the default 1h ones) look [censored] awful. And the stance in Morrowind for holding 1h swords also looks awful. And the only reason I'd want a 1h katana is to have a shield. You don't use a shield with a katana.

Fair enough. I admit I can come across as a bit abrasive. Also, really, Yack yack yack? :)
I never really noticed the one handed sword stance in Morrowind being that awful. I think I just fell in love with the fact Morrowind used the real crossbow animations. The use of the foot and all.
It's entertaining to see a skeleton use one too.
Also, yes, some of the katanas look ugly. I admit that. Personally though, the Daedric one isn't bad.

And yes, using a shield with a katana would be silly. :)

I feel the guy who made the mod illustrated it the best.

One of the reasons I don't like katanas is the curved blade. I like mine straight. Yes, I know the katana blade is curved for a reason, still think it's looks ugly

If you don't want a curved blade, why the hell use a katana? That's one of the biggest differences between katanas and longswords. Just use a longsword. And the curve is barely even noticeable.

Looking at the pic I would hardly call the curve unnoticeable

Actually, the main reason for using a katana is that they are the best base (non-unique, unenchanted) one-handed blades in the game. The Daedric katana's best attack (chop) deals 3-44 damage, whereas the Daedric longsword does 4-40 with its best attack (thrust). It's not a huge difference, but it's enough of one that it isn't just a matter of aesthetics as you state.
