Just finished Fallout

I loved it. I had played the original Fallout a little at a friend's house when I was really young after it had first come out, but didn't remember any of the story/gameplay. After getting Fallout 3, and loving every minute of it, coming back to where the series started was a no-brainer. IMO, there isn't much not to love in this game: the unique characters with their own personality traits, the immense wasteland complete with special/random encounters when traveling from location to location (I was fortunately lucky enough to experience the alien's crashed ship - cheers to the alien blaster), the unique towns/factions all dealing with their share of post-apocalyptic problems in their own way, and the dry post-apocalyptic humor that hopefully every installment in the series offers (tackling FO2 next, then Tactics). I can see where the originality and personality of this game is lost among next-gen gamers, but playing this truly took me back to my childhood. It is understandable why some see Fallout 3 lacking in certain aspects, but at the very least - it will get some young gamers acquainted with this fantastic series and get them to go back and replay the original installments. Cheers to the developers that made a timeless product that is still affecting gamers today.

Glad you enjoyed it, but I totally doubt this.

If you presented Fallout 1 or 2 to the average "modern" gamer, they'd turn away in disgust since they've been spoiled with bump-mapping, pixel-shading, and bloom lighting. Also, they'd claim the combat system to be "too slow", and lacking in explosions/general mayhem.

Completely agree. Most gamers these days are complete "graphics [censored]s", and only appreciate a game if it has a smooth, fast-paced, combat engine. But I think there are still those out there, albeit it's a minority of gamers, still appreciate an in-depth plot and good storyline.

Very true, but the numbers are dwindling, I think.

The modern age is full of mindless zombies who just want blood and guts.
I loved the old systems in FO FO2.
Only if i could go back and play these games for the first time again, Ahh Bliss.

Fallout 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games.
And, coming from a 14 year old who's first system was an original XBox, that shows there are a few people who don't care about how nice the game looks, but just storyline and game play.

FO1 + 2 Own FO3 in my opinion.

Yea, I remember firing up the demo of Fallout 1 on my PC waaaaaaay back in 1996 or 1997. And it was probably the first real PC game I played that suddenly opened my eyes to PC gaming. I remember flaming my first raider and fighting Rad scorpions.

The fallout trilogy really does deserve a play through. And I know games have changed along with the technology driving them... but fallout is something S.P.E.C.I.A.L. =]

I own multiple copies of the orginal games (along with some other golden classics like baldur's gate and planescape). They have their own special shelf in my collection.
