Looking for a better combat mod

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:40 pm

Hi!
I was planning on getting into Oblivion again after a long break, but I was wondering if there is a mod out there that can improve the combat. I have been playing Dark Souls a lot recently which will probably make going back to oblivion's combat system a bit of a problem. The other problem is my PC can run Oblivion decently, but not too well, meaning the mod cannot be too performance destroying.
So in other words; Is there a mod out there that can improve oblivion's combat system without severely impacting the game's performance?
If there isn't one, I'll just get used to oblivion's combat system again but if there is one, thanks for finding it!

Duke Patrick's http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/914-duke-patricks-melee-combat-no-recoil/ and http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/514-duke-patricks-combat-archery/ mods will make physical combat as lethal as you want, and some more. It keeps vanilla mechanics (no hotkey moves nor any flashy stuff) but implements things like critical shots to different body parts, and feints and parries by moving around correctly in melee. If you run across something that is grossly bigger or stronger than you (ogres, minotaurs, trolls...), you will be in for a world of pain unless you learn to keep your distance and strike when their guard is down. Plus, they make weapon rebalancing mods mostly unnecessary because the weapons' stats will be changed on the fly in your game through scripts, and you can set the damage multipliers to something lower if you feel they are excessive.

I use a simple mod called http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/32651 to tweak combat but keeps how combat works basically the same there is the http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/914-duke-patricks-melee-combat-no-recoil/. I used to use it and it makes combat much more strategic. I stopped using it because I wanted it to be a bit simpler as I'm a horrible fighter. The only caveat is that it runs a lot of scripts, so if you have a heavily modded game you'll probably lose a couple fps (not too much).

edit: migck is quicker than I am!
