3rd Person in Skyrim.

It should be exactly the same. I play in 3rd person 95% of the time, only switching when firing off an arrow or spell.

I only play in 3rd person. If there is no 3rd person view in Skyrim I will not buy the game.

I usually only use it too view my character, or when I'm in towns. But if they make it more practical during combat I might try it out.

imo, they should seperate 3rd person into two cameras

- they should have a 'vanity' camera which behaves much like the 360 view of the previous games

and

- an over the shoulder camera, much like gears of war, or assassins creed, that had a cross-hair so you could accurately direct attacks

This is a solid idea.

I'll always prefer first person for games like TES though, other than when admiring my cool armor/robes, as it adds so much to immersion.

This.

Oblivion I mainly played 3rd person, only changing to fire off a few arrows or to pick some ingredients for alchemy, or other minor tasks. I never had much of a problem with combat in 3rd person till I started playing Fallout.

I only play in 1st person mode, i.e. when doing quests, fighting, etc..

But I do use 3rd person mode to view my character (i.e. taking screenshots and video)

I say improve the functionality, make it less rigid, and definitely make it easier to use ranged weapons in Third Person. Personally I won't touch it, but I think the option should be a good, viable one for those who prefer Third Person over First.

There are thousands who actually play this game full 3rd Person. Me, I actually played a lot of 3rd Person in Morrowind and I'm half n half on Oblivion. I'm sure they will make 3rd person better.

I'd like them to tweak it to work better while fighting or activating/picking up items, but I still want to be able to control the camera.

3rd person should stay, but it should actually control like a 3rd person game.

No strafing. No backing up.

In real 3rd person hack n' slash games, pressing left and right = the character actually turns and runs in that direction, rather than strafes. Pressing down = the character runs towards the camera, rather than backs up.

That's how it works in God of War/Assassin's Creed/Super Mario/every other non-shooter 3rd person game.

Elder Scrolls' approach of keeping 1st person controls in 3rd person mode is one of the biggest reasons why the mode feels so broken. That only works if your gameplay is mostly a shooter-styled affair (a la Gears of War).

I think you'd find those mechanics quite detrimental to sword play.

I'm fine with how it works in the current games. I mainly use it when exploring, while i combat exclusively from 1st person. In both tes' and Fallouts.
