I am putting Skyrim down for a while, and I loved Fallout 3. I did not love being too OP by level 20 though.

I have never played NEw Vegas and would like some tips on making a good character, but not so good that it gets boring at high levels. Attributes, skills, etc.

thanks.

I'm all about not having uber characters, and was just about to make a post about how to gimp a character for a more realistic and challenging runthrough

to keep your level cap at 30 do not get any DLCs -or- make sure you get Old World Blues which allows you to take the Logan's Loophole trait, capping your level at 30.

For weapons: limit yourself to standard versions with mods (like scopes, barrels, etc) and use no Unique version of weapons to even the playing field
For skills: read NO skill books! With an IN of 6 or higher you'll have plenty of skills, but not enough to max everything, forcing you to be strategic with where you allocate them

more later, enjoy!

New Vegas is a very different game then Fallout 3.

Don't go North right away when you start the game. Why? Because there is a high chance you will get killed alot. There are enemies you will not be able to kill at level one with a weak rifle.

Talk to as many people as you can. Don't just kill the NPC. Why? Cause only one character in the game (besides the odd kids) can't be killed. So you can screw yourself out of quests by killing someone without thinking.

Be warned.. Wearing faction armour can get you in trouble. Example. You kill a guy from the NCR and take his nice armour. Then walk into Legion territory... You will be mistaken for an NCR trooper and shot at.

Use hardcoe Mode. Makes the game more fun. Ammo has weight and you need to eat, drink and sleep.

There are traits in New Vegas. Also persk every two levels not every level.
