The Hoar Father

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:09 pm

Doing some research, and i figured out a lot of the word walls (7 i think) mention someone (or something) called the Hoar father? I havn't heard this name anywhere in-game or lore?

It is mainly used as the topic of "Blessings", some sort of deity i assume. Who could it be referring to? All the world walls seem to be written by Nords, (names like Yngnavar Ghost-Bear) about dead relatives, animals, or enemies. And Hoar father is mentioned now and then...

Assuming the nords are part of the Dragon-cult (which would be why they know how to write Dragon in the first place), what type of Deity's do they worship rather than the Dragons? Akatosh? Is Akatosh the Hoar father? What do you guys think?

Im probably missing something here and everyone already knows who the Hoar father is..

I'm stumped. TIL has nothing on it. Nor did I find it in the lore forums via search. I am sure it has something to do with the old Nordic gods (Kyne, Orkey, ect.)

I will keep researching myself as this has got me rather curious now.

I assume the phrase "hoar father" refers either to Ysgramor or Shor.

Ahhh, nice find ;D

It couldnt be Akatosh anyways, all mentions of the Hoar father involve this line;

Noble Nords remember these

words of the hoar father

And the following text is always some battle-speech type thing about how awesome Skyrim is and how great it is to have the soul of a warrior.. etc etc.

And it also mentions Sovngarde (didn't know Dragoncultists believed in Sovngarde?) so could must be a form of Shor, or as the thread says, Ysgramor/wulfarth, or it could just be a metaphorical meaning (As in, a term for 'Ancestors'... "Noble nords, remember these words of our ancestors")

I would assume metaphorical, so instead of calling him a priest he is a Hoar Father. Like a title, IMO.
