Magicka regeneration problem

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 1:45 am

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums, didn't even know they existed! I've recently just started playing on Oblivion again, I never completed Shivering Isles so I'm doing it now and I have a problem with Magicka, and if I'm being really honest my knowledge of spells and everything isn't too good. When you originally start oblivion, you can hit RB and cast a healing spell on yourself, albeit quite slow, then your Magicka bar slowly regenerates itself. Although since I started my save file for Shivering Isles, when I come to hit RB now, I heal but my Magicka bar doesn't regenerate, I have to use a potion to increase it and I simply can't remember what I had equipped or whatever that would let it regenerate on its own.

I bet you all think I'm being dumb haha but any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Lee.

What you describe (not regenerating magicka naturally over time) is called stunted magicka. There are basically two causes:

1. The Atronach birthsign. Since your character was regenerating, then stopped, that pretty much rules that out.

2. The disease Astral Vapors, normally contracted from dread zombies. It can be cured like any other disease ( pray at a chapel altar, eat a piece of mandrake root, drink a cure disease potion, etc).

See if curing your character of any disease fixes it for you. :)

Here is a reference with just a little more detail: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Stunted_Magicka

And if you've visited the Shivering Isles, do not equip the Fork of Horripilation. That'll give you stunted Magicka, too (but only while equipped)

EDIT: Cheers guys! I prayed at an Altar and it cured my problem, not entirely sure what it was!
