Creepy WhoDunnit Glitch

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:53 am

I'd sure most of you are familier with one of the best Oblivion quests, Whodunnit.

I was playing on the 360, so no mods - in the house, planning out which of the guests I would off first.

And then one died. While I was still planning. I was downstairs, heard a spell effect go off - the summon one, I think, oddly enough, and then heard a body hit the ground. I rushed upstairs, to find everyone business as usual - except for the dead Nord.

I looked about for anything weird - and confounded, was eventually forced to conclude it was just an isolated incident.

Shortly after, the remaining guests started dropping like flies. Eventually the dark elf girl was the only one left - so i assumed she had some AI bug and had decided to randomly slaughter everyone. Then she died.

Needless to say, I left the house very quickly, lol, not sure wtf had happened. I got the bonus for the guests not knowing i was the killer - because this time, I wasn't!

I haven't been able to reproduce this - has anyone else had a similar occurence?

Something like this should probably be in the spoilers section. Sounds like a bug though.

Spoiler
I think the guests are supposed to start killing each other if you wait long enough, but I don't know the exact conditions.

UESP:

Spoiler
There is an occasional glitch in this quest that causes Dovesi to conjure an axe and kill Nels. This doesn't affect your bonus and no one seems to realize who killed Nels despite the fact that everyone can be in the room at the time.

My thoughts:

Spoiler
You ran into the above bug, and Dovesi was seen attacking Nels with her bound axe. This resulted in the remaining guests springing to Nels' defense thanks to Radiant AI's handling of assaults, and getting themselves cut down, too. Naturally, Dovesi will win since no one else in the building (besides you, of course) is armed, resulting in her being the only one left at the end.

Interesting - thats probably what happened to Nels. What's especially odd though is that there was no battle immediately after Nel's death, the killings were spaced out a bit. And at the end Dovesi died, not by my hand.

Could it be? An assassin among assassins?! :o

That sounds like a pretty hilarious glitch.

IIRC all the guests have 1 hit point so it doesn't matter who is armed.

This wasn't the option where you are able to psych them all out so the characters start killing each other off? Are you saying they just died on their own--even the last one left? If that's the case, then that's very creepy...and weird.

Are you running any mods that might "provoke" NPCs to attack you by causing a minimal assault. These guys have only a single hit point, so even the weakest spell damage would kill them. I think the Bathing Mod only goes to altering dispositions, but I could imagine a week without bathing might make your armpits lethal to these guests! :nuke:

Well I have finally been caught. I figured out a way to go online with Oblivion on the Xbox and play in other people's worlds. I saw this guy in Skingrad near the Whodunit house so I went into the house before him, killed off the one npc, hid the body in the cellar, and made myself look like him. I then proceeded to mess with your mind. I see it worked, too!

Just know I can be in any of your worlds disguised as any npc! I can be Martin! I can be the adoring fan! I can be anyone!
