Morrowind dungeons

Usually everyone talks badly about Oblivion dungeons, because they are all the same, boring, etc...well, I have to say there is the same problem in Morrowind too. Caves, mines, Dwemer Ruines, Daedric Ruines: they almost always look like the same (sorry, I don't know how they are in Skyrim).

BUT...the Palansour cave! It is really different. I think this is one of the first dungeons they made, because it's rich of details and objects.

Maybe they make too many dungeons in every game and after a while it's hard to create something new. This is just my opinion, of course.

I would like to spend a word for Endusal too. There is a giant disassembled dwemer robot inside. You can see the head, the legs, the arms, the shoulders, etc... (and there is also a Dwemer Centurion Plans, for build it, I suppose). Well, of course this is a main quest route, so it's less extraordinary.

What do you think about the dungeons in Vvardenfell?

There are quite alot and they look all the same. But unlike Oblivion, most dungeon at least have some sort of hidden story behind them (even if it jsut a note with some text the bandit leader worte).

Skyrim did this aswell, and it makes the dungeons seem less generic.

One thing I love about Morrowind's dungeons is the static loot, if you get lucky you can easily stumble upon an artefact in a non-quest related cave which really give a risk-reward incentive in going random dungeon diving. YOu could come face to face to with a daedra, or you could get bandits wearing nothing but netch leather.

Yep, that is one thing I miss in Oblivion and Skyrim. That static loot. It made exploration so fun because you never know when you're going to stumble on some legendary item in a cave.

I have to disagree that Oblivion's dungeons don't have stories though. They most definitely do. Often you will find a note or a letter of some sort, or the inhabitants themselves tell the story.

I also have to disagree though that Oblivion and Morrowind have boring dungeons that all look the same. In my experience, the dungeons in Elder Scrolls games have a lot of subtlety that may go unnoticed unless you are really paying attention. On the surface they may look similar, but it's the little details that make each one unique.

For example, in Oblivion, I've looted about 25 Ayleid ruins, and none of them have been the same. They all have had unique twists that made them different. The thing is, the differences are subtle. But they're there. They're there in Morrowind and Skyrim too. You just have to pay attention to the minor details to really get the most enjoyment out of them.
