Interested in new music?

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:22 pm

Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a music overhaul of the current morrowind music. I was thinking of redoing some of the music from Daggerfall and possibly writing some original stuff. The music mod for morrowind would take me a bit as im currently working on the music and soundFX for the Warhammer40K WARP Mod for Fallout3.

As a teaser of sorts I rearranged, re-did and added new bits to the Daggerfall #5 midi file available on the net. I put it on my band page here -> http://www.myspace.com/godlessreactor if anyone wants to give it a listen. It is the first song on the player.

If anyone is interested please don't hesitate to let me know because if no one is, then I won't waste the time.

Thanks! :)

It is very well done. While it is true that a couple other musicians have done remixes of Daggerfall music, I don't think anyone has done the Morrowind music itself.
And other music will be most welcome. :)

Please do! I am actually about to add some more music to my game, and I have passion for music. More is always welcome here, and in this case would save me some time. I have to research good walk around and battle music for MW and having at least one pack I know I can add and have it fit in would be a great help. :tops:

Thanks guys, I might release a few songs here and there then, also...

...after a lot of hesitation I uploaded my Morrowind Revisited Main Theme at the link in my OP above. Its a work in progress, something I've been working on for the last day or two for myself and figured I'd share it with everyone here. I hope you enjoy it. ;)

That was an excellent piece of music!
Your work is great, you really should go through with it.

I've considered making my own music mod for morrowind.
I'm no musician, so I'll be making mine based on a selection of pre-existing non-Elder Scrolls music,
with custom silence tracks.

If you want to make a music overhaul, you should consider using silent tracks.
A brief track of full silence will break up the music with short periods of peace,
allowing the player to be quietly immersed in the ambient sound effects, like the wind rustling in the leaves.
(It also helps the player to better appreciate the music, itself.)

If you would like to use it, there is a free modder's resource called "Sounds of Silence".
It was made for this purpose, and comes with silent MP3s in a variety of lengths.
It can be found here:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6469

(I know about this because I've made a custom music mod for myself,
based on the music from Oblivion, which I can't release for obvious reasons.)

Also, your "Morrowind Revisited" was epic! :D

(My previous post referred to "Daggerfall #5", which was also epic.)

Thank you Gaius, that was very kind of you! :)

Thank you for the link, this is my first mod for the Elderscrolls so this will probably come in REAL handy.

Well in that case, good luck to you. I look forward to the bits you release. Your energy for music shows. You can hear it in your creations that you linked us to in here, so it would be an honor to add such to my game. It would certainly breathe new life into the game for me and get me thinking. Part of the reason I do not mod is that I have become used to MW. I know the music so well it is almost tuned out. But revisted may get the scenes flowing in my head again. lol, if it works well enough perhaps my ideas will once again out pace my skills.

As long as you never try and sell remasters of other peoples music. You are legally safe remastering and re-scoring music from many games. You're good at what you do so go crazy.

Well the only reason I hesitated in upping Morrowind Revisited was I didn't think anyone would like it, not so much the worries of copyright. Covers of songs and such are considered the greatest form of flattery to a musician (as long as your not selling them, LOL). Jeremy Soule is an extremely tough act to try and follow, and to try and remake make it nearly as good as what he did is quite daunting. Truth be told, I have very little knowledge about writing cinematic, or orchestral music, I've been writing Industrial and Aggrotek music forever but I've always had a love of classical music (Im currently studying cinematic/orchestral writing on my own).

Morrowinds Main Theme is extraordinarily memorable and it has such a great "hook" that it brings you in and immerses you in its aural landscape. What my aim is, is to try and rework the Main Theme to make it like it was new and never heard before while retaing that "hook". Also I want to bring in new, fresh music and incorporate some of the old music from previous Elderscrolls games, update and rewrite, and try to improve them while making them sound as if they always belonged together in the soundtrack. I might even go so far as to improve the games soundfx if or when I have the time. Now bear in mind this mod might take a while for me to assemble and create.

Thanks for the praise so far, I really look forward in sharing more of my music with you. :)
