Get that mining going! Very lucrative because it supports three professions -- check the AH for prices and availability on both ores and bars, because both will sell, and selling just the ores can save time. Check out quests too, offhand I know 4 silver bars are needed for a Gnomer quest, and 2 thorium bars for the key to Scholo, and those stacks can sell faster than a stack of 20 sometimes; I like to break up the stacks too, in case someone doesn't need a whole stack of 20, but I don't break up ALL the stacks like some people do. Too obnoxious <_<

I've been doing that as well, using my gathering profs to make some money in the AH because 70 just kinda snuck up on me. Can be a bit of a grind though, so maybe pop in a movie or take someone with you for company.

Good tip about NR rep, because my orc already has 4k. Really need to get back to him anyway, not only do I want him to be my first 80, but he's been working on Netherwing rep for the mount.

I absolutely hate buying mats like Primordial Saronite 1 at a time, rather than a stack. Last time I bought mats for any crafted gear I just got a stack, even if it cost me about 100g more for convenience :P

It's not something you have to have right away, all you get is a flying speed increase and cooler mounts. As it's your first character you won't be able to fly in Northrend until you're level 77 anyway. I level to 80 with normal flying skill and I did just fine.

You'll be surprised how much gold you make while questing in Northrend. My DK started off with around 1k gold from another character but by the time I got to level 80 I had over 4k and that's after buying dual-spec for 1k gold and a few things from the AH that I didn't need to waste money on but I couldn't resist as they were so shiny. Just loot everything and vendor what you don't need or sell it on the AH.

Wait, cold weather flying doesn't require artisan flying? I thought it did, or I'd have already gotten it  One more reason to log onto my main tonight....
