i expect tesselation in crysis 3 for xbox360 version

Post » Tue Dec 04, 2012 4:30 am

Dear crytek, first of all the gameplay footage of crysis3 looks truly amazing!!! i hope you are giving the 360 the love and attention it deserves! Well crysis 1 on 360 features tesselation, so i know you can do it again for crysis 3. you say you wanna push it to its limits, then dont just talk about it, do it! The xbox360 can do real hardware tesselation, so i expect nothing less, or else i would be deeply disappointed... make it the best looking game ever made!!! crysis- it was love at first shot;)

Performance will be the limiting factor :( Hope they can do it though :D

U can expect more use of PoM but not Tesselation. Not on this Xbox. Maybe with Crysis4 on the next xbox ;)

The fact that Crytek are focusing on visuals suggests to me that the game itself will be very small..

"Well crysis 1 on 360 features tesselation," Who says that?
Tesselation is a DX11 feature buddy. The 360 is a DX9 console... so its just impossible to get tesselation working on a 360.
(Also tesselation is a very hardware intense feature, i dont even expect it to be heavily used in next gen console games for the 720 or the Ps4)
Crysis 1 on consoles featured Parralax occlusion mapping (and very little of it compared to the PC version).I think you will get that on the 360.. but dont expect too much. I personally hope the PC version gets the attention it deserves this time and from the beginning.

AFAIK there is a tessellation unit on the consoles but not as sophisticated as the PC DX11 version. The consoles had this tech before the PC.

Yes true, I cant recall did earlier consoles have something similar (which i think they had).

I once stumbled across a thread (somewhere in the internet while googling) where people were trying to transfer C2 console data to PC version of CE3 and found a config which had tessalation in it but only set to 0

I dont think that consoles will feature any tessalation on C3.

sorry buddy but you are wrong! the 360 has a tesselator built in its hardware, so it can do real tesselation, its not a DX11 only feature! PCs need DX11 to achieve tesselation but the 360 can do it without, simply because it has a tesselator! parralax occlusion mapping is the same by result as tesselation, it gives textures depth and profile! just a different subscribtion.

The 360 tesselation is not like the DX11 tesselation... U cant get Tesselation on Characters with the 360. And it really costs much performace. Crytek couldnt even get a solid 30fps on consoles. Not even native 720p...

I was talkin about tessalation as its used on objects like Crytek did in Crysis 2.
The grfxchips on the consoles are NOT able of tesselating objects as you could see it in the Dx11 version! Also tesselation in todays form is a feature which didnt exist when the consoles hit the market.

The tesselation unit on the Xenos GPU is build on Direct X 9.0c basics. There is some sort of "pre"- version of the tesselation we know today... but its incompatible to the Dx11 effect we normally call "tesselation". So using the tesselation unit in the 360 would require a lot of tweaking and extra time for using this special feature of the API. Todays DX11 cards are capeable of 64X tesselation.. while the 360 could only handle 15X on max! If you would set the level to 15X in a Crysis 1,2 or 3 the game would run in slowmo according to all the other stuff that has to be rendered parallel.

Well, since the Xbox360 is a DX9-based system, it will unfortunately not be possible.

Also, have you ever played a game with tesselation on a PC before? It is brutal on hardware. You'd be having RRODs all across the country if Microsoft even tried to allow it through some voodoo patch, which it can't anyway because it is quite literally impossible with current hardware.

I'd like better looking Xbox games too, but until Microsoft's next console comes out they won't look much better than they do now.
