Yes, but will your PC run Crysis 3?

Post » Tue Dec 04, 2012 11:55 pm

I think it’s going to look like the best game ever on the PC platform. Our goal is to melt down PCs again and make sure that the question returns, ‘Can it run Crysis 3?

At 3:50 he makes a comment on how Crysis 3 is eating 2.5 gigs of Vram. That kind of power can only be achieved currently by a 690 gtx.

-So, will high end spec max out Crysis 3, or will it barely be enough to run 30fps?

-Will it have the same impact the first Crysis had? or will it be better?

I don't understand the obsession of "melting down" hardware just for the sake of it. We have reached a visuals vs hardware plateau where to make visuals even look *slightly* better the hardware requirements literally quadruple.

I remember on most PC forums people were furious with Crysis 2 upon launch because their framerates were too high on max settings. That's right, a lot of them didn't even mention the sub-par textures or lack of DX11...all they wanted was a game that ran like crap and rubbed messages of "you must buy a $1000 GPU setup to play this" in their faces. Really?

I only hope that C3 optimized well, and I mean REALLY well. When you take a look at consoles and note how games like Crysis 2, Crysis 3 and BF3 are even PLAYABLE on a toaster with 512mb RAM, 7800GT equiv GPU and a 3.2ghz tri-core CPU then you really have to wonder what an i7 2600K @4.5ghz + 8GB RAM + GTX680/HD7970 is truly capable of and whether developers can tap into more than a fraction of that rendering/computing power.

But other video cards have more than 2.5Gbs of VRAM?

It was his mistake. He wanted to say "RAM". Not "VRAM".
Editor using 2.2GB RAM. And editor use more RAM than actual game.

Crysis 3's official high-end specs give the 680 as an example card. To be honest, I don't see the 690 being a practical choice for a while yet.

When he said vRAM he meant vRAM lol, 2.5gb RAM (i.e. system memory) is not even worth mentioning.
It's a believable figure if textures are up to scratch, Crysis 2 + DX11 + MaLDo HD had people reporting anywhere between 1.5gb-2.6gb VRAM usage, it's nuts. Skyrim with texture mods can also eat a metric ton of vRAM.
Remember some people's monitors go a lot higher than 1920x1080. A 1400p/1600p monitor will easily break 1.5GB, a triple-screen setup (5760x1080) could easily eat 2-3GB.

I highly doubt the finished product will use 2.5gb vram, a LOT of tweaks will be done to get it to use around 0.8gb-1.5gb, maybe peak at 2gb at the most because most "gamer" graphics cards still only have ~1-1.5gb to work with. Very few people are rocking current-gen cards with 2-3gb vRAM to blow.

No, he says Vram, in fact he proceeds to say Xbox only has 512 and ps3 has 256mb as for Vram usage your definitely misinformed, i have dual monitors on my PC and constantly monitor all hardware transactions during games to check for any anomalies, Crysis 2 alone on ultra eats up to 1800mb,

No, the most demanding vanilla game out theres is BF3 MP, eating around 2100mb of vram, but is map specific, being the map titled "kharg island". DICE didnt say, we have to make our game 580 proof, in fact, 580's could run BF3 with barely 45fps, Its very very rare when you have someone who even at best has a 680 on ultra, and doesn't have frame drops in BF3 MP. (Huge Maps)

If Crytek wants to beat the competition, they will obviously try and push Crysis 3 even furthur than BF3, and atleast give nVidia, a marketing campaign.

If Crytek does make it 2.5gb dependent, then nVidia will release cards with 2.5, its doesn't cost them $5 to install that, its just a game of marketing.
