I personally never do anything like that, but for you here are a few suggestions;

-Go Exploring
-Main Quest
-Dungeon Diving
-Random Side Quests
-Roleplay

Stock up on supplies and explore Cyrodiil, and then visit your favorite merchant to unload your spoils. Rinse and repeat. B)

And I do mean explore. On foot. Take the time to turn a few rocks, peek behind the shrubs, and kick a few logs. The province is huge. Mudcrabs to battle (and eat), flowers to pick, ancient forts and ruins to test your courage and mettle, etc.

and

Visit cities, talk to everyone, give change to beggars, enjoy some food and drink at a local tavern, people watching, etc.

Explore some more.

And when your feet and hands are blistered from the fight and miles, body chafed and fatigued from the armor, ego shorn from turning tail, a few nicks, a few diseases, dreary eyed from lack of sleep, memories of those you scuppered afresh at every dusk...

Then

Return to your favorite city. Rest and heal. At this point you're thinking to yourself contently, I could make a home here. So off you go...

[edit] And welcome to the forums!

Yes, off you go. Off you go to rob Dorian blind, because there's no legitimate way to buy Rosethorn Hall when you're level 3. :P

As said explore and kill stuff, most quests have leveled loot so that leaves making your own stuff up.
Oblivion is a huge game, caves, ruins and forts are dotted everywhere and depending on the type of foes in them full of goodies.
So welcome and have a whole bunch of fun.

Do the mage guild quests to get into the University and stop the quest line there for now. There are no leveled rewards involved in getting into the University, but it is a greaat place to learn more magic, craft your own spells and enchanted equipment and better prepare yourself.

Then go exploring. Talk to people in the cities and settelements.

Once you have walked all the roads discovering markers near them, take a look at your map. See blank areas with no discoverered markers? Go there. Repeat. If you are on PC, a portable campsite mod is really handy here (but not essential).

Gather nirnroot, smell roses.

If you go to Vilverin (the Ayleid ruin visible just as you leave the sewer in the beginning) and find the Ayleid statue there, then you can go to see Umbacano in the Talos Plaza District of Imperial City and he'll send you questing to other ruins for more statues. it's lucrative and the rewards are not leveled and sends you around exploring as you make your way to each ruin. You don't have to do Vilverin first but it's the easiest way to see him. Good luck!

Get into the Arcane University so that you can enchant weapons and armor, buy spells and also loot the place.

I would also do the fighters guild early up until the final mission as the loot that you get its only a couple points difference when you reach lv 20-25. You can get some really good light armor during the fighters guild quest.

1. Do the mage guild series of recommendaton quests. Great benefits and no levelled rewards

2. No reason to stay away from either fighter's or thieve's guild quests, atlhough your guy doesn't sound particularly stealthy so TG might be out.

3. If you're on PC get the mod that levels quest rewards as you level. Avoiding quests because you want only the high end rewards (lvl 30 in many cases) is a real game killer.

4. If you have KOTN you can do that as soon as your armorer skill reaches 50. Those rewards can be levelled along with your character.

I agree with this so strongly that I refuse to time quests to the rewards. And you know what? After several years, I have discovered that threre are exactly no leveled quest rewards that my character cares about. Azura's Star (level 2) and self enchanted stuff is all I want. I love the freedom! And guess what? This strategy works perfectly without mods!

Explore, get to know all about monsters, places, cities, people and so on. Do some dungeon diving for leveling, loot and money. Do a lot of quests. Basically, do what you want, there's unlimited choices.

Amen to that. Although if you want to use destruction magic at all two of the MG quests have leveled spell rewards that could matter.

In any case, none of the quest rewards are "bad" if you get them early, because you can use them now. Why wait to get the good things until after you've done all the things you'd use them for?
