I keep hearing people say the game needs a patch, but what on earth could be fixed with a patch? Other than gameplay tweaking like weapon balancing. They can't fix the major issues with this game, there's just no way. They can't just "patch the framerate". It's not like framerate is a variable in a file somewhere, and they accidentally put "10" when they really meant "60". The framerate is the result of poorly optimized code. This as to do with how large the maps are, the range of colors used, texture quality, etc, and how they use the console processing resources. They simply can't fix the framerate, unless they dramatically overhaul the game code in some way, which would require lower resolution textures, less dynamic color range, etc. So to put it bluntly, no magic patch will ever come out that improves the framerate. The framerate of this game is still going to be garbage three years from now. Then there lag and hit detection. Again, this is the result of poorly optimized code. This game is so poorly optimized, that it just chokes along, hacking and sputtering all the way. I honestly don't think a patch can address these issues. And I'm not really hearing any complaints about issues that can be patched (like overpowered guns or perks). The complaints seem to all be directed at the hideously bad performance of the game code, and I seriously think they can't be fixed with a patch.
