How many polys would yo like it to have?
Doesn't have to be high poly, as the textures would give it depth. Leaf panels done like the classic Morrowind trees. But in the style of redwood, with not much until towards the top.
Here's some examples of the simplicity of redwood trees

I realize that many younger redwood trees have more branches towards the bottom. But I want to do a nice big redwood forest, so lower poly, therefore less branches, is better.
The bottoms would be great if shaped something like these however, as redwood trees often have those burls at the bottom:

Though a version that simply cuts off at the bottom like a tube is good for thicker forest areas, even lower poly that way so more trees.
It is true that most pics of redwood trees do not have the bark spiraling around the trunk, but I have seen many redwood trees that are that way. And since it really isn't possible to do the irregular lumpy look of most redwood trees' bark, the spiraling is the only real option for a Morrowind redwood tree.

Oh, and if more than one modeler wants to make trees, all the better. I will release a nice big beautiful redwood trees modder pack then.
