Morrowind problem on Windows 7

Hi

I've searched everywhere for a fix to this, but can't seem to even find anyone with the same problem. I'm trying to run Morrowind on 64-bit Windows 7. I have GOTY with everything installed.

When running the game there is no music and the mouse movement is very "jerky"; making the game unplayable. Turning the music right down (to "zero") solves the mouse problems, and the game runs perfectly smoothly. But ideally, I'd like to play the game with music.

Some of my system specs:
ATI Radeon 4800 series
4GB RAM
3.2Ghz AMD Phenom II
And like I said, Windows 7 64-bit. SP1 installed.

I installed MGE to see if there was anything I could change to get it working, with no luck. I also tried moving the install folder to "C:/Morrowind" rather than the default, am running as admin, disabling visual themes, desktop composition and display scaling on high DPI settings. I also tried running in XP compatibility mode.

I assume it's a problem with Morrowind not being able to play the sound files, so I've checked that MP3s are associated with WMP and that I can play the files on their own. Other sound works fine in the game, and the master sound remains turned up. The game runs on very high fps unless I limit it using MGE (which makes no difference).

I read reports of people having problems with the music turned off, but this is the opposite.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Nick
